I presume you're watching the filler arc with that odd family I hope I'm not spoiling.
Anyways, you should be hyped for the next arc which IMO, is the third best after Water 7 arc and the other arc, I again am not gonna spoil
Also, the reason you haven't watched this earlier was because you've been either blindsided by people telling you how awful it was or you've been busy watching other anime like Naruto, Bleach, or Fairy Tail.

Also watched a buncha other 50~ episode anime's, etc... I've just never got around to this one. And yeah, I'm on that filler arc. :D

A prediction for the anime in the Punk Hazard arc which will come soon:

I'm guessing and hoping Caesar will be voiced by Nakao Ryusei
It may almost seem cliché at this point, but I know of no other VA that pulls of a fitting voice that well for such a character.

^ I hadn't thought of that one for Caesar. Could be a good choice. I kind of imagine his voice differently though. Can't really put my finger now on the voice I had ''chosen'' for him.

Episode 567:

Just wow, can't believe that made that an entire episode. It seemed like the whole episode was just cutting to Luffy punching the ship to Noah and then cutting the fishmen shouting "Mugiwara!" And as much as I love OP that got tiresome after the second or third time it happened.

And that is the problem with this arc. Just everything gets dragged on for so long that it loses meaning, which is a shame because if it had been shorter this could have been as great arc but as it stands it's probably one of the weaker story arcs of OP.

This arc did a lot of things right. The theme of racism and all it's various negative effects are explored pretty thoroughly as well as the painful attempts to overcome this ingrained hatred the fishmen have for humans. The strongest section of the arc were the flashbacks to Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime. Those parts of the arc had the strongest impact. However, their effectiveness kind of gets eroded when it gets to the last third of arc which are a bunch of dragged out fights against chumps that are no match for the Strawhats. I know they were trying to show off how much the Luffy's crew had grown during the last two years but the enemies were so pathetic that it made it hard to take serious.

Second to being dragged out that was the other problem with the arc. The villains posed absolutely no threat. It was pretty telling that less than halfway into the arc Hordy Jones gets his ass handed to him by Zoro underwater. After that I knew he could take all the steroids he wanted he was never going to be a match for Luffy. What makes this even worse is it's then followed later by Hordy going on and on about how he is going to conqueror the human world. I actually felt sorry for the delusional bastard as he would go on these tirades as the only thing I could think is a any of the Navy's Admirals could easily bitchslap the entire fishman island by barely lifting a finger. With everything dragged out the way it was it made this point seem even more absurd.

I know OP always keeps it's filler arcs short but I think it would have been better have a filler arc to let the manga get a little bit ahead than to stretch this arc's material so thin and really rob a good story of most of its impact.

But all that being said, I still have gotten some enjoyment out of this arc. It's still OP, I still love it and I will still be watching it every week.

Ah, I missed this post. Good thoughts though. I just came here to post something similar after watching this week's ep, 568.

This arc was rather underwhelming for me as well. As Itou said, none of the villains posed any threat at all. I suppose there was the chance of the boat destroying the island, but that was unlikely to happen. I mean, when was the last time at the end of an arc you saw all of the Strawhats walk away unscathed? Besides Luffy, no one seemed to even break a sweat dispatching these "villains".

So yeah, a little weak in my opinion, coming right out of the

time skip.

Hope for better things from the next arc.
