Was anyone else disappointed that Hisoka didn't meld a guy half-way through the wall this time, but rather made his arms disappear?

The pacing is pretty bad compared to the original and I remember that quite well. They're cutting out details that make the story make sense...just on episode 3 they are already in hunter exams and they haven't even made it clear that his (Gon) father is clearly the reason for that. It's OK if stuff is not relevant, but the way it's going, it just feels so uneven. If that's what they continue to do, the story will already be inferior. There's a lot of plot details in Togashi's work, so it's best everything make sense because every character has their own motivation. Otherwise you get characters doing stuff and you'll feel like you're clueless (unless they just made this assuming people had already watched the original). Between this and the original series, I'd definitely get the original if I wanted completeness.

But i might get around to watching the original series some day. Series with a giant number of episodes tend to scare me away a little :)

^haha I'm like the king of long running series, and I never regret picking them up....*looks at stalled list and sees Detective Conan and Bleach*. Well...rarely regret picking them up.

But yeah, as for the pace, I think they fit the first 5, maybe 5 1/2 episodes in to 3, comparing the old one to the new one. I don't think it's too bad. And I'm still convinced that we have some flashbacks coming that will give us a little more character development.

Overall, episode three was good. Just introducing some more characters. Excited to see Killua make his first appearance.

I'm not giving up on it yet. Well, it should make a little sense to anyone familiar to the shounen genre. I'm just saying I love details and I don't want important stuff getting cut out, in favor of making it all action oriented. That does not make for a well crafted story and characterization. I have watched enough series to know this much. =P

Hmm I gotta check this out, the original is one of my favorites! It'd be nice to relive some of it, especially since I'm not a huge fan of the manga currently.

While the original was indeed entertaining, I like the new designs, and mostly the new voice cast.

Unless this show splits off into a different story somewhere down the line I don't see any reason to watch it since I've seen the original. I never read the manga so I don't know if the original series followed it or not. For all I know this new series is like FMA Brotherhood or Helsing Ultimate, a redo of the original series to more closely follow the manga. I hope this is the case because if I wanted to watch the same old story again I'd rewatch the original series instead of this one.

I've heard that it is supposed to more closely follow the manga, which I haven't read, so I wouldn't know the difference. And in the meantime, I can enjoy the updated animation.
