I want to watch this but I was wondering, is it better to watch the original series first and then come onto this one?

^I think that question would be hard to answer without seeing how this new installment turns out first. It's only 2 episodes in, so it's hard to say for sure. That being said, I don't think you could go wrong watching the original series. It's got the top spot on my favorite anime list. Characters, story development, settings, premise, were all handled well in the original.

Plus would probably have to factor in how patient of a person you are, i.e. would it bother you to wait every week for a new episode, or would you rather marathon the series.

Eh, I guess I really didn't give you a concrete answer in all that ranting, sorry

I'd say give the original a watch first. I've only got the first 30 episodes so far but I found it to be quite enjoyable. It moves at a slower pace but you'll probably get some more character development there, particularly for the minor characters, which I personally liked a lot.

I never watched hunter x hunter, only seen one OVA and loved it, I always wanted to try HxH but many anime came up first... so I'm pretty excited about this new launch, I've watched the first two episodes and I'm already loving the series, glad to hear it's a fastest pace from the old anime, since I don't really like slow paced shounen... (main reason why I dropped naruto, painfully slow).

Looking forward for the next episodes

Ah, the second episode was much more enjoyable than the first one. Probably has something to do with getting used to the new voice actors and stuff. I think Megumi Han (Gon's voice actress) is doing a good job. Well, not as good as Junko Takeuchi (although that's because she's AWESOME), but still pretty great, especially considering that it's her first major role ever.
Normally I don't like watching stuff weekly, but I'm looking forward to the next episode ^^

Well I liked how the original one ran, but then again I like the new voice cast the better. Watching both original and new, you see you can shorten some crap (some important was left out thought, but is likely to be shown later).

Now that the anime is in the very hunter exam, they will probably leave most stuff unchanged from the original.

Looking forward to Hisoka with Namikawa's voice :P
