Exclamation [DENIED][REQUEST] Reviews

I realized that under each review we can say how it was: Funny, Cool or Helpful
But I don't see any option which say that the review wasn't good... there are some people who disagree with the review, or reviews that are not well made (like puting the anime in a good light, or making it look like is verry bad when it isn't).... then what can we do? we can't choiche that it was Funny, Cool or Helpful when it wasn't!
We need an option which expres our displeasure!

This has been brought up a few times before. Sothis has always replied that there will never be a disagree/dislike choice for site reviews. IIRC, the reasons she's given were that it would be too open to abuse & something about how the site reviewers worked hard to get the position or something. (I didn't pay much attention, as I personally have no interest in any reviews of anything. I have found that most people's opinions differ from mine far too much for any reviews of anything to ever be helpful to me.)

You could always post a comment on the review, stating "I disagree with this review, it creates the impression that the series was amusing, when in fact it was boring", or whatever your opinion is.

As Drahken said, why have a button that someone could press anonymously and totally abuse, when you have the opportunity to express exactly *why* you disagree? Unfortunately, there are a handful of people who cannot put their thoughts into words without descending to personal attacks.

I think you will find all of the reviewers here are approachable, and a well thought out counter reply will be well received.

As Kira says, the reviewers here are all approachable, none of us are evil overlords who will smite those who disagree with us, so feel free just to drop a quick comment if you disagree, but the key word in Kira's reply there is "well thought-out".

I know it wouldn't bother me getting comments disagreeing with any of my reviews so long as they have valid reasons (not just "I love it, you suck" or something or the one I've had twice now "well of course YOU wouldn't like it, you're a girl!"). If I've trashed the plotline of something feel free to counter argue why the story is good.

No matter what we try, reviews are bound to be somewhat subjective, one person will love it, another hate it. Having a negative button would be way too open to abuse, because you could end up with a load of votes just because the person disagreed with the viewpoint rather than because the review itself was poorly constructed or factually incorrect.

I've personally found that as a reviewer you definitely grow as a writer. I'd probably rate a couple of my earlier reviews a little lower, since I think I let my fangirl take over a bit, but that's something that I've worked on. I try my hardest to be a bit objective, but if something is technically crap, but enjoyable, it's worth plugging that in the review since others may agree. But anyway, what I'm trying to get at with this rambling thing, is that as a new reviewer (and even now) I get a little confidence boost from the votes I get on my reviews, which has helped me develop. Had there been a negative button and I'd been bombarded I may not necessarily have been completely put off or quit, but I would have been demoralised and probably not progressed as much as I have.

But yeah, if you don't find a review helpful, or disagree with it entirely then please feel free to leave a counter-argument comment - if nothing else it'll keep all us reviewers on our toes. XD

As cassiesheepgirl said... (everybody was starting their post that way, so I thought I would too).

Anyway

The reviews are not done by random people (we have community reviews for that). Those people earned that spot. I think all of their opinions are valid, and fair. You can't criticize a person for just having a different opinion. Plus, I think those buttons are not meant to rate the review, but so that reviews can be divided into categories.

It's called an opinion. :p It can't be wrong.
Don't like it? Just don't read it >.> Or write your own review.

as for writing.... it's not like i don't understand english at all, but i don't consider my english good enough to write an review (no, it's not my native language)

ok.. so they would abuse that option... but if there are only positive voting oprions (and no comments) wouldn't that confuse people?
so removing the review rating would be an alternative if not adding another option.... or adding at comments ratings for review (including dislike/disagree).... this way can't be abused (at least that's how i see things)

Don't feel like you have to write a review in english. You can write one in whatever language you wish!

As has already been stated, you are more than welcome to leave a negative comment and explain exactly *why* the reviewer is wrong.

the vast majority of people would use a negative button if they disagree with the content of the review. ie, i like naruto, i write a positive reivew, and if other people dont like it they mark that it wasnt helpful?

the point of a review is not 'they should only exist if i agree with it', they're to show an opinion by a selected set of staff reviewers. as there is a careful screening process to become a site reviewer, i trust that each review which is up has a certain level of quality and that opinions are expressed clearly.
