if im going to spend time coding something, it's going to be brand new features for AP and ways to improve the community here. export will happen eventually, but i think it's pretty easy to understand why enabling easier access across communities would be an extremely low priority compared to actually improving AP itself.

as an example of types of things that i consider to be higher priority is a current project to redo a lot of the usability aspects of the profiles/entry pages so things are easier/simpler to use, getting more moderation staff trained so info is easier to load, getting help content going so people can succeed in their tasks easier, fixing bugs, and surfacing recommendation content higher. all of which, imo, are far more needed for AP's core functionality for all users than creating an export for a handful of people. it's not completely cut, but it's also very low on the priority chain. i think it would be hard for anyone to argue otherwise.

I haven't bothered updating my list because I can't easily export it. I hate MAL's and anidb's entry. Yet I want to use them because friends use them. Yet I want to use AP for ease and aesthetics, but I find it a waste of my time if I can't export when I want it. I used to keep an excel sheet before AP, then I went gun ho with AP later finding I still want to have my data at hand.
Now coding priorities aside. If the data that is visible can be scraped and copied into excel then exported to the right xml schema. Why is it so low priority to get a php script going that spits out a xml data from a user's list? (I know I"m simplifying it a bit, but I am talking from experience and it isn't rocket science, especially when you have existing code accessing the data and making connections.) I've gone scraped my data. I been spoiled by AP that I can't go back to doing it any other way so I just don't. I do come back and check in hopes that you have added this feature and for years now still no export :<.Maybe I'm just being lazy and using this no export thing as an excuse to never keep track of what I watch again. Especially when I think about how much I have to enter to catch up. |
