General discussion areas pretty much ALWAYS get much higher post counts than specific areas, no matter what site/forum you're talking about. This site however is anime (and manga) oriented, and thus we try to maintain that theme & nudge people towards it as much as we can.

Another thing to consider is that if you put something in front of chan/san, the focus will most likely wind up on the [something] rather than the chan/san part. It could work if we could come up with a [something] that reinforces the chan/san though. Something along the lines of "wannabe-chan" and "otaku-san" for example.
Yeah I agree, I like the idea of otaku-san and wannabe-chan, 'tis kinda cute :)

Probably looks different with post length considered. Think of the people abusing it as a chat room or those stupid games.

I'm fine with kami as the top rank, but feel there's still room for mecha slightly below it. Maybe have mecha as 3k & kami as 5k.
Shortlex- I mean mecha as in giant robots, around 20ft tall or taller.

The problem with mecha is that it's about as intuitive a status as saying someone is a machine gun. It's a weapon, not a positition/role that endows you with highly desired attributes. For example, if you are a ninja, you are stealthy and kick-arse etc. If you are a samurai, you also have the added bonus of being noble rather than on the dark side. If you are a god, it means you pwn everyone, you're the super being. That kind of thing. Nobody IS a mecha, they just ride one.

No nerd goes around saying 'I WANNA BE A MECHA!' But they do go around saying 'I WANNA BE A NINJA! I WANNA BE A GOD!' Mecha stands out as really random.

Technically a mecha is a machine, but it's a humanoid one & not difficult to imagine yourself as one. Essentially it's like becoming a giant, with super tough armor, and a huge plasma rifle.

Alternatively, you could change it to "mecha pilot", then it would be similar to a ninja or a samurai. As a pilot of a mecha instead of the mecha itself though, I think it would go lower in rank. Perhaps between samurai & shogun (while a pilot is usually less skilled in combat than a samurai, his weapon is thousands of times more powerful than a simple sword).

The -chan, -san, -sensei etc. seem kinda nifty but they should probably all be suffixes for the sake of consistency. Just off the top of my head there's still -kun, -sama and -dono available, and I'm sure there are a couple I'm forgetting or don't know of.

The problem with that is that most people aren't familiar with those other honorifics & how they rank relative to each other. Most people are familiar enough with chan, san, and sensei to have a vague understanding of how they rank (although most people aren't aware that sensei is an honorific, they think it's a noun).

It is a noun, not a suffix. Many nouns can be used as honorifics. Mister and Doctor are nouns as well.

(I notice you're often wrong. Put a little more research into your posts ;)

It clicked with me immediatly. Mecha are something ridiculously powerful particular to anime.

Anyway, I'm bored. Who's in charge of this? Ketsuron? Wanna vote on which scale to develop further? Or get out a general call for suggestions?

any site decision has to go through the site owner.
