There should be an "Average Rating" for each anime. It's annoying to have to open that page that shows everyone's rating. Keep that, but add an average rating to the anime's page so that people like me can quickly and easy find out if it's an anime to check out. Coupled with the already existing recommendation feature, this will be fantastic.

Trusted users? Wouldn't that make it biased? Just let everyone vote.

id call the hundreds/thousands of people who vote all 5 or all 4/5 for anime as far more biased. choosing people will be based on a fair spread of ratings - please read the other thread for details.

If they like the series, they're gonna rate it as such. That's why there's ratings, to show who likes it and who doesn't. Being biased kinda comes along with rating. I'm talking about being biased toward the rating process. Let everyone rate, it's only fair. :/

The problem is that a lot of people rate everything they watch as either awesome or terrible, nothing in between. THAT is what would skew the results if it were wide open. Realistically, relatively few series should ever wind up as either awesome or terrible, the vast majority fall somewhere in between. Unfortunately a large number of users on the site don't seem to grasp such concepts, and thus we are in the situation we are currently in.

But preventing those people from doing that is the same thing. They shouldn't be prevented from rating just because they feel strongly about their opinion. If it annoys you, that sucks, but let them rate it however they like. O_o

Also, most of the "trusted users" you would choose are likely elitists who hate mainstream anime, and would rate those series as horrible, whereas people like me see entertainment as entertainment, regardless of whether it's "mainstream" or not (a word that literally means "liked by the majority"). You're favoring elitists over the average joe.

That might be a heavy accusation, but it's how I personally feel. Just add the rating system. Things almost always turn out just fine if you sit back and let people do their thing. The right rating will come out.

spunky, i get the feeling you havent even read the other thread. please do so for more information on how people get chosen (ie, ANYONE who doesnt clearly vote every single anime 5/5 or 1/1).

aggressive accusations and demands to do something your way will not change my mind.

by the way, the idea that 'it will just work out' is absolutely laughable. the main reason average ratings aren't respected or trusted on any of the big anime sites is EXACTLY the reason why we want a more balanced system: people rate in a shitty fashion and then everything is skewed.

I didn't say it would just work out, I said it almost always does. People will rate based on their feelings toward the series. Who cares if they rate all 5s or all 1s? That's how they feel; it's perfectly acceptable. O_o

At the end of the day, it's your site and you can do what you want with it, but I think you're making an unfair decision. Oh and no, I didn't read the other thread. I don't need to.
