Really like: Shoujo/Josei Romance Comedy Sci-fi Fantasy Seinen Dystopia/Post-Apocalyptic (these types supersede my dislike of horror/tragedy since typically I already know what I'm getting into) Cyborg Shounen Really dislike: Horror Tragedy Psychological Shounen-ai/Yaoi/Shotacon Lolicon Mecha Everything else is fine but I might not read it depending on how I feel about the synopsis.

Some genres I'd be up for reading from would be: Shoujo, Romance, Josei, Slice of Life, Comedy, and Shounen-ai. I'm a little pickier about Shounen or Seinen, and Horror, but I'm interested in them as well.

I've read almost every Josei I could find already, unless you've got a title I'm unaware of, but ya I read mostly Shoujo and Josei, but they're mainly Romance so I just summed up with that.
Edited my posts for "accuracy" ;)

Sounds like a decent plan. The biggest issue I think, is assigning genres. On one hand, I think a united front kind of thing would be more fun, and I think the track idea would leave too many genres unclaimed (ie, you might have 200 people doing shounen, but none doing horror). The flipside of that though is that no one wants to be "forced" to read some stuff they know they'll hate.
...Perhaps a hybrid option, where you pick 2 genres each week & people can choose one or the other (or both if they're ambitious enough)? As long as the 2 genres aren't too similar (like shounen-ai and yaoi), that should prevent anyone from having to read something they hate. My hated genres: I friggin despise sports stuff & hiphop stuff (although, fortunately, hiphop based manga is pretty rare), can't stand to read them at all. Next hated would be shounen-ai and yaoi (intensely dislike them, but could stand reading one or two), then horror/mystery and magical girl (boring as hell, but tolerable). Any other genres I'd be fine with, even if I don't like them much. vols per week: It's hard to calculate volumes, especially since the # of chapters in them can be so random. However, if the series is good enough, I can read 50 chapters in a day (I think that equates to 5~10 vols). On an average series though, I think I tend closer to 10~12 chapters per day. As far as using something like MU to get similar series to start with, MU's recs are frequently so far off that it ain't even funny (I swear they'll link a series if it shares 3 letters in the title). However, if you stick with the top 5 recs for a given series, it should be close enough for us to start with. (Better than just picking a title at random ....barely. ;) )

so it sounds like we should get started with a josei track. i propose:
-the 'week' starts on friday (so friday->thurs) -i'll start making discussion threads in the manga section, potentially in a subsection, for us to discuss while reading (hopefully this will draw more manga people in) -let's aim at ~8ish vols a week unless we realize that's way too much/little -for the first week's pick i'll randomly choose some josei that we have in the db that don't have synopses. if you guys have suggestions on how best to pick them moving forward or want to nominate some for the next week i'm all ears :) ideally we'd all read the same things so we could discuss and talk about recommendation ideas. it could be that if we read something and one of us have heard about something else with a similar plot, that could go on the docket for the next week. 3D Material - 1 vol Candy Life - 1 vol Hataraki Man - 1 vol is available of 4 (this one sounds like it'll be a good rec with Candy Life) Desert Storm - 1 vol Katana - 2 vols available The Embalmer - 4 vols available - 1-2 for the 'official' manga club and 3-4 if you want to read more ^^. Embalmer I suspect will be a decent rec with Katana total: 8 or 10 vols. We could try this out, discuss, and see how far we get into the week. If we all run out, more could be added :) if its too much, there could be less this week. I chose a lot of short ones this time to get a bit of variety :D any feedback would be welcomed. and i'll start up some discussion threads tonight! please confirm here if you want to participate in this week's track ^_^

I'll be participating, even if i have read most of these already ;) since they're small I'll re-read them.
Oh ya, I'll be skipping Hatariki Man and The Embalmer since they're not completely available yet.
