Prompted by a certain exchange in the "What I just finished watching" thread some number of days ago, I thought it'd be interesting to try and set up a club for small groups of people who like a particular quasi-obscure and/or unpopular series to get together and form little "cult followings," if you will. The basic idea being to pimp their shows of choice with little buttons in their sigs, in hopes of slowly recruiting others to join them.

Here's how I see this working - people list any series they're interested in getting a "cult following" together for here, and once someone joins them the cult is ready to go. (one of the two members would then post or send me a pic to make a button with) It doesn't have to be your absolute favorite anime or anything, just something you enjoyed that you feel could use some publicity.

Although I'm very reluctant to slap numbers on things, for the sake of having some kind of guideline let's just say to keep suggestions to *roughly* 1500 views max, with stuff from 1500 to the lower 2000s or so being open if there are circumstaces. (i.e. very old, most people seem to dislike it) This must be taken flexibly - for instance, 1200 views is actually a pretty healthy number for an airing or just-finished series, and 1800 really isn't all that much for something that's been around 10 years. Just try and keep with the spirit of things. The numbers are merely vague guidelines to tell people it's okay if a series isn't quite as crazy-obscure as some of the others, and also to hopefully keep them from tossing out names of shows with like 4000 views.

**Graduation: Being that this has been going for awhile, some cults have begun to go above and beyond the number range that would generally be acceptable to consider something a cult. So, every so often there will be a "graduation date" to clear out cults that have fulfilled their purpose - getting the supported anime into the realm of being at least somewhat known. Graduated cults will be listed here for recognition's sake, and have their images removed.

As for the buttons themselves, here's an example. *BIG* thanks to letsbuildafire for providing me his banner template, which I tweaked a bit to make these:



They can be set to link to the anirec entry, so people can easily go ahead and see what the anime is. You should be able to fit five or six next to each other on one line, so you do have some freedom to be in multiple cults at once, but suffice to say you couldn't be in thirty or anything.

Also, there's a limit on text space, so most titles will be abbreviated. If there's a preferred option for this do say so when you send me the pic, as well as if you want to specify what background color you want, any directions on how to position it, (you're probably not going to get any full-sized pic to fit on a 20-pixels-high button and have it look any good) etc. Some helpful image-searching sites: Safebooru | Konachan

I made the argument that SZS wasn't exactly "obscure" in chat and then I guess he figured it wasn't overly disliked either... *shrugs*

This is true. I figured it'd be okay to be relatively flexible just to get this off the ground, but yeah. Removed then.
