i have always thought the filler hate was elitist nonsense i don't read manga so the whole filler argument is irrelevant to me if the episode is good it's good if not then not whether it ever appeared in an manga anywhere is a non question ..i like anime anime i'm not a manga nazi.

OH
![]() I, shorty solemnly swear that I will fulfill my duties as a F.A.T person and obey the order of the F.A.T.s. I will try to utilize the fillers without consuming their awesomeness as a whole, making my mind obese with fillerness. Thus being F.A.T., I promise to appreciate all things "fatty," and be aware of the F.A.T. that lies within me. I will NEVER, EVER, overlook the F.A.T.ness of ANYTHING. EVER!! ALL HAIL F.A.T.s I disapprove, I nominate Laggy as out mascot! |

After skimming over a few sentences in the first post I must say that I vehemently agree with your thesis!
Many writers simply cannot deal with the pressures of constructing a good multi-episode story arch, but those same writers, if they hone their skills in on a single episode can create masterpieces. I keep a running list of my favorite anime episodes in my head at all times, and I must say that all of them were "stand-alone" episodes, to use an anime term. All my favorite episodes tell a short, self-contained story that anyone who has never seen the show can still enjoy. In fact, I would argue that the medium of television is probably designed for these types of episodes. It is a real crutch to have to have to tell an epic, massive story in tiny twenty minute increments. It's only when show creators realize the limitations and strengths of working in television that they can really make outstanding episodes. For example, Kino's Journey is composed almost entirely of "stand-alone" episodes, and it works. Whereas certain other shows (which shall remain nameless...) have absurdly convoluted story-lines and really would have been better suited for another kind of entertainment medium. |
