So I'm sitting here thinking, why not have a club for all the RPG lovers out there?
RPG's, (Role Playing Games) are basically what I grew up on, got me into anime as well, so here's a thread where we may all unite & share out love for good ol' RPG's. |

Actual-factual board game based RPGs, or the electronic thingamajiggers?
I've never played D&D or anything of that nature; but I also have the niggling feeling that anime inspired RPGs got me into anime, coupled with shows like Sailor Moon and whatnot. Anyways, I'm a pretty big RPG nut - I've currently got all of the disc-based rpgs for the 360, apart from Nier and Star Ocean, which I just couldn't be bothered to pick up based on their premises. Atlus is my favourite publisher as well, I pick up any of their rpgs as soon as I spot them. The GBA/Colour was king! Also: |

We once tried Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye), but the problem was that I was the only one to know the rules...and I made someone else DM. Bad idea.
That aside, BALDUR'S GATE 4 LIFE |

My fav kind of RPG that is lol. Haven't ever touched the tabletop RPG's such as D&D but done lots of console/PC RPG's FF, Elder Scrolls games etc. Also played a fair few MMORPG's WoW, Guild Wars, FF11, FF14.

I've played D&D a few times, but it bored me out of my mind. I had fun a few times, but it moved at such a slow pace most times. I just took naps, and just rolled the dice when they told me to.
I used to like JRPGs, but I mostly don't like them anymore. Most of the combat systems bore me except for the Tales series. I feel too restricted in many games, and now many games are 70% cutscenes. You rarely make your own decisions, so there isn't much "role playing". I dropped many JRPGs because I couldn't stand the characters. Many are too two dimensional. They seem to be the embodiment of a single emotion. You have the character who is always grumpy, the always happy character, and so on. Now, I love western RPGs like Dragon Age, Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect Series. Personally I think they are the best RPGs that have come out within the last few years. When it comes to older RPGs I DO prefer JRPGs though. Last edited by Garyuu; 01-28-2012 at 05:06 PM. Reason: some grammatical fixes |

I actually bought a D&D set because I liked Baldur's Gate so much, but it turned out to be a waste of money and I was extremely bored. Except this part. Even for older ones, I still prefer western RPGs, however I do agree that JRPGs were actually good in the past. |

I realized that I need to do more proof reading before I submit stuff. My grammar can be pretty bad some times (roll playing game?).
Honestly though, my experience with older RPGs consist of 99% JRPGs. I haven't played enough western RPGs to make a fair decision. |

My dad also had some 80s RPGs as well like Ultima and such, but I've never really managed to get into those due to the clunky and convoluted nature of trying to perform what should be simple actions. I actually wound up skipping out on the PS1 JRPG craze almost entirely when I was younger and didn't start catching up until the PS2 and even then I'm not a big fan of most of them, but I do like some. Speaking of popular JRPGs, I've played almost all of the Final Fantasy series and the only one I've ever managed to get into is Final Fantasy 6 on SNES. (Although, I did find Tactics Ogre interesting, so I should give Final Fantasy Tactics a shot.) |
