Default 2009 Awards Discussion Thread

Didn't seem to be a whole lot of chatter in the vote threads last year, (people just kind of voted and left) so this time I thought I'd make a dedicated discussion thread for people to post thoughts and such in. Have some thoughts on a particular category? Want to wave the flag for your anime of choice, or burn the flag of a popular show you hate? (keep it civil though :P) Post here!

As something of a firestarter, while there are many categories that look to be very close this year, I might as well start with the big one and ask what people think the Best Series Overall vote is going to look like. Last year it was frankly kind of dull, as everyone knew it was going to be either CGR2 or Spice and Wolf, with Clannad maybe making a run at it. This year though, while Toradora may just run away with it, if that doesn't happen it seems pretty wide open, with roughly a dozen series appearing to have a decent shot. (Toradora, Skip Beat, CAS, Eden, Xam'd, Bakemonogatari, Pandora, 8.0, K-On, Phantom, S&W2...) Anybody see this one differently, or think there's something I'm forgetting?

Based on popularity, those 11 look pretty accurate (with the exception of Pandora maybe). Depending on the number of voters, I think anime like Aoi Bungaku, CANAAN and possibly Umineko have a chance too.

But keeping things realistic, I think the final competition is going to be between CAS, Bakemonogatari, K-On! and S&WII.

For OVA's, I think Candy Boy, Eve no Jikan, Higurashi Rei and Ichigo Encore make a fair shot. (possibly Minami-ke Betsubara?)

For movies, a showdown between Cencoroll, Kara no Kyoukai, Summer Wars and TTGL? (seeing not enough people have seen Eva 2.0 yet, and E7: Pocket Full of Rainbows is generally ill-recieved).

Somehow, more people have seen Eva 2.0 than Cencoroll or Summer Wars -.-' So I guess that will be a four horse race. Your take on the OVAs seems about right, but I wouldn't be surprised if Dogs sneaks in there and competes.

Speaking of Canaan, there's been a lot of great music this year. A couple offerings each from Yuki Kajiura and Hikaru Nanase, and I see Kou Otani did Tokyo Magnitude. (still need to watch that though) Plus a few other notables like Tytania or Kurokami, and probably some I'm forgetting or didn't see yet.

I think the major contenders will be Bakemonogatari, Clannad ~After Story~, Skip Beat and Toradora. And I think Kemono no Souja Erin would also be a top-contender if more people had seen it.

With OVAs I think Eve no Jikan will easily be the top

And movies will be dominated by Kara no Kyoukai.

these awards are always dominated by what's "popular" because that's all the majority of people watch... I've always rooted for the underdog in anime because those shows are generally so much better than what's "popular" for me.

Kemono no Souja Erin is by far the BEST series of the year. it truly is a shame that more people haven't watched it.

I sadly agree with kenikki when he says that Bakemonogatari, Clannad ~After Story~, Skip Beat and Toradora will be the most voted for. Especially Clannad >.< (if it wins i WILL rage ;__;) I'll be happy with ANYTHING else winning but clannad.

Eve no Jikan will be the winner of ova's without a doubt. Candy Boy could contend but i wouldn't choose it over eve personally and i don't think most would either.

i believe Kara no Kyoukai will win if EVA doesn't. Summer Wars will get a few votes but i don't think enough people loved it enough to put it before the other 2.

LOVE that show. It's really terrific, but then since it's the same author that wrote Moribito that should be no surprise.

I also have really been loving Kobato. What a sweet series.

I haven't watched that many of the anime on the years list (wish I could see Summer Wars in particular) but I'd vote for those two any day.

I'll have to agree with what most people are saying. Pretty sure Toradora! will take it all, depending on the turn-outs, although I could see S&W2, Umineko, K-On!, Clannad After Story, or Eden of the East sneaking in (That's the main one I'm surprised nobody has mentioned).
As far as OVAs go, Eve no Jikan would be my first bet... and probably my only one.
TTGL is what I think will take the movies, although I haven't seen Garden of Sinners yet... But I've heard good things about it.

For best female lead, possibly another year for Horo? Any thoughts?

Nah, I'd say either Senjoughara or the chick from Skip Beat will win female. I'd prefer Erin, Michiko or Taiga though.

No way, Senjougahara is original thats okay and Kyoko is a likeable character but Shiki should definetly win the best female and yeah shes that awesome

Edit: Ok editing because i sounded like a proper troll. What i intended to say shes a really well made character. Unique in her own way and has a proper character development. Still i would accept if Michiko wins as well
