2009 A-P Anime Awards: Panel selection
Starting this year, we'd like to do a "panel" vote alongside the regular one, to have a second set of results that are less subject to popularity skew, a little more informed, etc. In order to do that, of course, we need people to be on that panel. Process-wise, since the central idea is to have a well-informed bunch, panelists will be asked to hold off on placing their votes until the final few days, and in the intervening time make an effort to catch up on some of the relevant anime they missed. Of course, nobody can be expected to watch near-everything, or to sit through series they know they'll hate. But if there are some things you wanted to check out at some point anyway, just see if you can get around to doing so over the next few weeks. And then when you do eventually vote, all you need to do is vote in the regular thread like normal, but put it in blue to indicate it should be counted towards the panelist vote as well. Also, we figured we might have the panel do some bonus/fun votes on LoW-type stuff, (i.e. best fight scene, most confusing, etc.) just as a nifty additional thing to have. If you have any ideas for categories for this, please post them here. For sanity's sake we can only do so many of them, but the more ideas to pull from the better. I figure the actual bonus votes themselves can be in their own little thread, with each panelist picking up to three per category and run on a base plurality count, no need to get complicated when they're basically just for fun. With all that said, if you're interested in being on the panel (looking to make it roughly 10-15 people) please make a post here indicating as such. Include the number of ended-in-2009 anime you've seen, as well as a couple of your favorite and least favorite genres. Currently we figure on trying to pick people based primarily on a high watch count and getting a good genre balance, as well as a minimal amount of seniority. (i.e. if someone has only been on A-P a couple weeks it's probably not too wise to assume they'll definitely be around a month from now) Of course, it's hardly an exact science, so if anyone has some thoughts on other things that could/should be considered, please say so. Here's the master list for counting-watches purposes: This will be open until the 13th, just like the fix threads. (incidentally, if you have a few minutes to help out with the genre and leads lists, please do so!) Then I'll try to piece together a list, run it by sothis for any desired changes, and post the final selections up here. To all who wish to participate, thanks for volunteering ^_^

sure... why not... might as well check it out.
generally I'm a fan of comedies, seinen anime, and some shounen. I normally dislike pointless ecchi, and shoujo anime (that doesn't mean i hate all in those genras... just the majority of anime in them) the bolded anime are anime i've seen on that list. i've not watched all of those to conclusion (though i have watched the vast majority to conclusion), as some were just too horrible to soldier through. lol. Not sure if i've watched enough to make it to a panel though. |

I'm totally game! I "think" I've watched enough ;)
![]() Favourite and hated stuff doesn't really matter for me genre wise.

Sounds like fun, good chance to pick up some of the shows I skipped over (or stalled early) too!
Note: dropped = stalled / dropped. Although I watch and enjoy pretty much everything, preferred genres are: Mindf*ck / Psychological / Comedy / Random / Romance / Drama Least preferred are: Harem ecchi's, the ones with awkwardness instead of romance and episodicness instead of plot (not that I mind episodic shows in the least, but not in these shows). ...well, I guess ecchi and harem series would be the most hated, but I can certainly still watch those genres if they're well made. Last edited by Kenikki; 03-01-2010 at 04:02 PM. |

Just a reminder, these threads will be closed Monday night, so if you'd like to help out or be on the panel please make your posts soon.
I don't think we can justifiably do a panel with just five people, so if we don't get a few more it's going to have to be nixed, sadly. I could toss myself in if needbe, but would rather not because putting oneself on a panel just seems like a really cheesy thing to do -.-' Might be unavoidable at this rate though. Anyway, if anybody's avoiding asking to be on because the requirements seem big and scary, they're really not... you don't need to have a watch list like chii, if you've seen a good 20 or so that's probably fine. And in no way does "try to catch up with stuff" have to translate to "crazy marathon month;" you can if you want I guess, but it really just means that you don't need to have already seen everything you ever planned on checking out, as you have plenty of time to watch some of them before voting ends.

I seriously doubt I'll be taken in, coz I probably haven't been here for long (a month actually), but what the heck, I'll post up anyways.
Fav genres, well, seinen, fantasy, phychological, drama, comedy and shounen a bit. Least favorites include harem, reverse harem, unnecessary ecchi and such. But that's not to say I won't watch one if it's got a good storyline, something I very much value in an anime. A few of titles on the above list are on my want-to-watch list, so I'll be starting 'em soon. |

Okay, time to close these. Looks like if we're going to do the panel it's gonna have to be this set of eight, but it seems balanced enough (save for the unavoidable distaste for ecchi) so it should be fine. Will run it by sothis regardless, then update this post.
Didn't quite expect as low a response as there was in the fix threads, but will do what I can with what's there. Quite simply, if more people who saw a show suggested it be in a certain genre than didn't, it goes in. (for ties, it seems better to err towards inclusion) The leads thread will stay open, though once voting starts the only things that can be justifiably changed are missing entries. In any event, once that's all compiled (shooting for Wednesday) I'll write up the vote threads and we can get underway ^_^
