Well, I like the idea. It's certainly a way of getting in a feature people have wanted without really opening it up to fanbois/haters. Most sites have problems with that, especially for big anti-fanboi shows like DBZ.
Those who have the ability to rate anime, will be a privileged few that are approved first. I would think they would care enough to do an honest job with it. If you don't like a certain genre, then don't do reviews for it. I don't like magical girl shows at all, so obviously I wouldn't go through putting a 1 for all of them. It's not fair to the people who actually do enjoy the genre. If there are problem childs, they can always be removed from the group and their ratings nullified. |

A question, I didn't see it answered anywhere but sorry if it was.
Will there be some type of ratings ladder where we can see a list of anime ranked #1 to X number (presumably based on a minimum number of votes)? |

I think that this is a good idea, but I am concerned that the criteria for choosing these "trusted users" might be too strict.
I suggest that the only criteria be that the person has a healthy mixture of different ratings, and absolutely nothing else should factor into the process, lest it become biased. Also, will this include ratings for "stalled" and "watching" shows? I was wondering about that too. |

Personally, my guess would be "yes". Keep in mind that advanced searching is one of the big things planned for v3, so it's quite likely that there will be something along those lines (especially if you add in the fact that you can already browse by tag/genre & by year & by studio). I suspect that you will be able to browse all anime that are rated 3.5 stars, or all that are rated 2 stars, etc and/or that yopu'll be able to include the rating in your search. We'll have to wait for sothis' response for the final word though.

Just a thought but you could always include both sets of scores. Show both "average score (all users)" and "average score (trusted users)". You've got the data after all, so it's not like it would add a strain to simply pull 2 averages from the database and output them.

And you're saying that if someone rated all his anime by 4 or 5 don't fit the job, but what if he watched like 50 - 100 and all his anime were really great? -_- Still better than some users rated lots of their anime by 0.5, I mean how can you rate it 0.5? I admit that there's bad animes, unless you really dont like anime and as if someone is forcing you to watch it? -.-

1) There's no way that a person could have watched 50~100 animes & had all of them just happen to be great ones, it simply isn't possible. Anyone who's watched more than 10 has to have seen at least 1 which was just average or even terrible (and even 10 great ones is pushing the envelope of believability).
A more realistic expectation is for about 25% to be 4 stars or higher, 25% to be 2 stars or lower, and 50% to be between 2 and 4 stars. 2) It's not a question of "how can you rate it 0.5", it's a question of "why did you finish watching it". In most cases of such low rated anime, you'll find that either the person dropped it after a few episodes, or that the series was just a 3~5 ep OVA or a movie. Very few people hate themselves enough to watch a long anime that they can't stand.

Well, I kinda agree with you. I usually read about it a little or ask friends' opinions before i watch anything, so I don't really jump on bad ones. ;] And even if I do, I just can't rate it lower than 2, no matter how bad it was, maybe that's just not my style..
Anyway, hope to see average rating whether it's both regular and trusted users or just trusted. By the way, on imdb every registered user votes counts in and the ratings are pretty good there. ;P

Most of the anime I've watched up until recently was on broadcast television, so looking up info on it first wasn't really a consideration.
Even now, getting info or opinions first isn't very helpful, many series that people raved about I find dull at best (like evangelion & melancholy of haruhi). If I hated a series, I have no problem at all saying so. If you look at my anime page, you'll see that nearly every series on my dropped list has a 0.5: Drahken - Anime List - Anime-Planet
