It's somewhat similar to a few past ones, but should be different enough. This week we'll vote for 5 anime that aren't what they seem.

Fairly simple - sometimes you go into an anime thinking it will be a certain way, and it turns out to be quite different - whether it be in terms of overall genre, or some particular aspect like amount of action, maturity, ecchi level, etc. Which examples come to your mind?

1.Higurashi no naku koro ni - the looping and the WTF factor
2.Clannad AS - show that was suppose to be light romance, turned out to be a drama
3.Ga-Rei Zero - thought it would be weak prequel, turned out to be show exceeding the manga
4.Tsubasa Chronicles: Tokyo revelations - thought I'd see an OVA overflowing with sugar, and got served a very bloody show instead
5.TTGL - thought it would be just over-the-top-fun, and it pulled out a drama after all

07-Ghost - Thought it would be less gay.
One Outs - Thought it would have more character depth.
Umineko no Naku Koro ni - Didn't see the fantasy/witch stuff coming.
Tears To Tiara - Didn't think it would be that...crappy. But it is based off an H game after all...
Bakemonogatari - I guess this show seemed like a weird Mind-fck anime, but it turned out being so much more than that. One of the few to surprise me for the better.

Toradora (Changes direction half way through)
RahXephon As much as I was told this was a knock off of Evangelion, I found it to be better than that.
Major i was expecting Capitain Tsubasa meets Prince of Tennis. I ended up getting the best sports drama this side of Ashito no Joe.
Spice and Wolf I got a whole marketing lesson in that show.
Kimagure Orange Road "I want to Return To That Day" (Movie) A very dramatic and touching end to a more or less up-beat series.

School Days (Most should know why...)
Shadow Star Narutaru (Cute children, fucked up minds)
FLCL (Something thats soooo off the line, it's hard to see where it will go)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (I had no idea where it would go, surprised me at every turn)

School Days - Obvious reasons
FMP: Fumoffu - Take what I didn't enjoy from FMP and make a whole series about it why don't you!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR
Clannad AS - The first season was full of humour and like romance, 2nd season was tear jerking drama (still good but completely different)
Bakemonogatari - Because I can't explain it ;)
