This could be a tough one, but for this week let's vote for 5 forgotten anime.
I'm sure many of us can look back and think of some series that were fairly popular when they were airing or being released; some of which (say, FMA) remained popular long-term. But many others have kind of fallen by the wayside, with very little seen or heard of them these days despite their popularity in the past. Which series stand out in your mind as good examples of this? Happy Voting ^_^ **Voting Closed** The top 5: Chobits Cardcaptor Sakura Witch Hunter Robin Outlaw Star Sailor Moon Thanks for voting! This is kinda tricky for me, as I've only been aware of anime as they aired for a couple of years.
Sola Beck Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (I say this because the subsequent, inferior season is far more discussed now) Samurai Champloo More later. Last edited by ForgottenSon; 12-09-2008 at 01:25 AM. |

Hm. Here's a topic pretty much tailor made to my anime interests. So in the interests of narrowing the verdict (and, surprisingly, not sneaking Legend of the Galactic Heroes into another selection) I'll try to limit this to stuff I'm pretty sure were at one point pretty popular in the West, but now no longer are.
Serial Experiments Lain - some of you might protest this series isn't that all forgotten, but I'd say if it merits being featured in ANN's Buried Treasure then it's forgotten enough. Which is a shame - not only is it superb, it has a wonderfully bizarre and unique approach to discussing the internet that seems prescient rather than dated. Truly an anime classic. Robot Carnival - An awe inspiring anime anthology. Absolutely mesmerising. The Big O - As cool as Cowboy Bebop, and as effective a blend of mecha and mind-screw as Neon Genesis Evangelion - also it's Batman. This kick-ass series is far more than the sum of its parts, and in its heyday was so popular in America a second season was ordered - but it doesn't seem all that popular today. Urusei Yatsura 2 Beautiful Dreamer - A strong, meditative anime film from Mamoru Oshii that was better recieved, I hear, in the West than it was in Japan. That's not too surprising - one doesn't go to see the cinematic adaptation of a goofy romantic comedy for a dead serious psychological mind-bend flick. Witch Hunter Robin - A brooding, angst-ridden, much underrated series with a goth aesthetic to die for. Agreed. So far I'd say the third is a return to form for the first season, but that's just one episode in. |

Well this list could go on forever . . .
A nod to the classics Ace o Nerae! Cat's Eye Yawara! Gunbuster Touch Not even skimmed the surface . . . even went so far as to put in THREE sports anime, something I loathe almost as much as harem. I'm not completely sure about Gunbuster's popularity at the time though . . . |
