For this week, let us vote for our top 5 pleasant surprises.
Pretty simple; most of us have come across series we expected to be mediocre (or just bad) only to see it well exceed these expectations, turning out to be rather good. Which ones stand out for you? Happy Voting ^_^ **Voting Closed** The top 5: Futakoi Alternative Welcome to the NHK! The Melancholy of Haruhi SUzumiya Blue Drop Simoun Thanks for voting! Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku
Denno Coil Moyashimon Mushishi Simoun There are more but if I have to pick 5 only, these would be them. Two I own and I would own the other three if they were released R1.

Hm. This is a pretty tough one, I've rarely thought highly of a series or movie I didn't have reasonably high expectations for.
In order of the extent to which they exceeded my expectations: Dai Mahou Touge (had low expectations after Dokuro-chan) Tweeny Witches (with a title like that, how could I even tolerate, let alone like it?) Kaiji (a lot better than its predecessor Akagi) Neon Genesis Evangelion (I'd waded through a lot of backlash) Haibane Renmei (angels... which f*cking smoke - and it's not a comedy) |

Crest of the Stars (I wasn't surprised by its quality, but by how much I loved it)
Futakoi Alternative (that one was such a slap in the face) Simoun (after the first few episodes I thought it was horrible, but thank god I kept watching until the very end) Kannazuki no Miko (KnM contains pretty much everything I hate in anime (mechas, and that whole brotherly love thing...), but still it made it into my top 10. Go figure) Uta~Kata (It seems like I'm voting for this one every single time, but it does fit in every category!) |
