10/12/08 - 5 most inconsistent anime - Anime-Planet forum

We'll try a bit of a negative one this week and vote for the 5 most inconsistent anime.

I'm sure we've all seen a few - those series that just can't seem to decide if they want to be good or not, almost as if the writers flipped a coin each episode to decide. We're not talking about just a bad ending, or series where one half is better than the other; rather think of the ones whose quality fluctuates on a regular basis. Which anime strike you as the greatest examples of this?

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
Divergence Eve

H20 footprints in the sand (oh it had potential, oh it went wtf every half an episode)
Code Geass (havent seen all of r2, but its just too much of a roller coaster)
Da Capo (although this is probably more of a first half v second half thing)
Gantz (though arguably it was consistently bad)
Tenjou Tenge (lets flip a coin to see if we do/continue a flashback or not)

If H2O isn't on the final list, I'm going to eat my computer.

Code Geass R2 is my other vote. I'll edit in if I can think of three more series.

Akagi (two superb arcs followed by a major screw-up)
NieA_7 (a charming slice-of-life mixed with painfully unfunny comedy)
Elfen Lied (blood, breasts and bathos - I could have done without the bathos)
Gantz (slickly cynical humour, marred by poor pacing and an eventual build-up of sentimentality)
R.O.D. the TV (starts as a rather tired sitcom with rote character building, takes a while to find its roots)
