6/22/08 - 5 anime with best side-romances - Anime-Planet forum

Going to get a bit more detailed this week; we'll be voting for the 5 anime with the best side-romances.

There are many action, comedy, etc. anime (probably most of them) that, while not really romance-focused series, have some kind of relationship that develops on the side of whatever the main plot is. More often than not they're done in rather unspectacular fashion, at times feeling entirely tacked-on and dull. But sometimes, despite not being a major focus, these romances are managed very well and add a lot to a series. Which are your favorites?

Inuyasha While the main plot is gathering the jewel shards, Inuyasha and Kagome's romance really steals the show.
Samurai Deeper Kyo Split personalities make for some interesting love triangles
Full Metal Panic! Chidori and Sasuke make the best couple.
Welcome to the NHK! This has the strangest way for two people to get together I have ever seen.
Ninja Scroll It was such a unique romance story in between all the action.

Basically my top 5

1.Full Metal Panic!
2.Blue Gender
3.Busou Renkin
4.Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann
5.Tsukihime

Almost made it- Gungrave, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Vandread

I would say Eureka Seven, but I wouldn't really consider it a side story.

Well, this gives me a chance to throw in a couple obscurities.

Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen - What I consider the third best romance in anime
X - Take your pick: Yuzuriha/Kusanagi, Sorata/Arashi, Kotori/Kamui, Seiichiro/Karen, Yuto/Satsuki, Kakyo/Hokuto, etc
Phantom - Seriously, if this never developed it would just be another random assassin show
Hitsuji no Uta - Take your pick of the romances
Crest of the Stars series - Come now, you KNEW I would have to put this one in . . .
