2/3/08 - 5 Most Underrated Anime

I kind of assumed this one had already been done, but it seems it actually hasn't. So this week we'll vote for the five most underrated anime.

Should be interesting, as this is one week where heavy favorites like FMA, Haibane, Last Exile, Death Note, etc. are basically excluded. If you're not sure how people generally see a series, you can look at the user stats in the anirec and see what scores people gave it. (Just click on the "x users watched" link) Every anime is going to get a few 10s and some haters, but try to look at the overall picture.

And remember, when voting please just list the titles at the top of your post, and put any comments down afterwards. Put "no vote" at the top if you just want to discuss something.

I didn't add some because i was unsure just what underrated means for the rest :p Stuff like Banner of the Stars, Guu as its unknown, Noir and Vandread... dunno. It's a really vague subject ^^

Yea, I've been thinking about that little bit of vagueness as well.

Hmmm... well, certainly a series that is commonly rated lower than you feel it should be can be considered underrated. As for things that are just obscure, I think I'd say that if the people who do watch it usually give it high accolades then it can't really count as underrated, as it's more an issue of being not well-known.

Though sometimes good series get ignored simply because they appear bad at first glance, which is a form of underrating as well. It's a bit of a blurry distinction. In the end, just go with whatever you feel qualifies I guess.

MS igloo, (i think the only reason it is underrated because it was never released in the us)

Desert punk (really dont hear much about that show)

I guess in the end of things I think are good that not so many people seem to have watched (in my experience) are Perfect Blue and Jin Roh - The Wolf Brigade. I might be completely wrong and maybe lots of people have watched them and think they're good, but just a thought.

Please remember the vote format... counting gets really hard when series are mentioned in-paragraph like that ;_;

No vote because there is a high variability over ratings in different sites (KGNE was one such example I ran into in an earlier discussion about overrated-ness with a #4 and #170s spot in two different sites) that kind of ruin the whole idea of "underrated" if one focuses on votes alone. Plus, I can still pimp a lot of my all-time favorites which are by no means (that much) underrated but are definitely lower than how high I would put them (Crest of the Stars series being one). Due to the overall blurriness of the rules this time around, I don't really want to add to the chaos by putting shows that either 1) already have reasonably good ratings or 2) will only be getting my vote anyways because people won't know them for the most part.

I think this is almost as blurry as my "great lesser known mangas" thread (talk about some crappy adjective usage there!)
