Full Metal Panic, Hellsing
Sorry guys, but EVERYONE hypes these two up but FMP I thought was decidedly average, whilst Hellsing was just shite.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hellsing.
NGE is nearly worshipped by fans, but contains more pretense than substance, and it makes people overlook lots of anime with more sense and ideas. Hellsing is just another stylized vampire stuff, but so overrated that even I was coerced to watch it; fortunately, I didn't waste time at home, only on the move. Not that I hate any of them, but they were very underperforming compared to praise their numerous fans sing. The latter especially; I still don't get why can't people just say "I like it because it's about vampires, and very cool ones", but rather suggest it for anything. NGE wasn't too bad, but it's just way too far from the praise. Much of that praise comes from its early days when even trying to pretend to have a meaning was experimental and innovative. But it's XXI century now. Time has moved, being confusing doesn't count today as being deep, ideas from school textbook don't count as revelations. It became quite unremarkable among anything progressive (and even normal anime starts to blend the line of progressive anime itself), but the following goes on for far longer than it should. Probably has a lot to do with it being mecha, a popular genre per se, and being old enough to count as sort of classic. It sure stands out among mecha fighting just for the sake of mecha fighting, it did impress early teenager audience of the time, but today there are real seinen series and movies which have more thought put in them. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien MechaTama31 - Appleseed Movie? O_o? Eh? Overrated? The story was decent and the animation awesome, but I don't think it is overrated - I haven't encountered anyone saying that it is best of all, Earth-shattering or something like that. The most positive feedback were that it was good/great movie... |

NGE
- i watched it, and in the i was like "wtf, where is my time gone, who will give it back to me???" everyone was so hyped about how great this show is and it turned out to be sad crap with pretence. Like Ergo. Only scene worth watching was pissed off Eve. Or however was it called. Im suprised no one mentioned BeBop. Not that i think its overrated. But i know there are conspiracy secret societes plotting to desacrify this series ;-)

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ouran High School Host Club, Tsukihime
Neon Genesis Evangelion I like NGE but it's far from being as great as I often hear it being praised. Ouran High School Host Club Far from bad but in the end just an average comedy. Tsukihime After having played the game I tried rewatching the anime...and turned it off after a few minutes. I liked it the first time but now... I can only say that it absolutely sucks ass compared to the game it's based on. Last edited by Mueti; 06-10-2007 at 08:33 AM. |

Is it me, or are some of the most lauded anime shows also going to end up on the most overrated? There must be SOMETHING about them if they're controversial enough to divide people's opinions like this. As for Cowboy Bebop (Uriel, Sothis mentioned it first), I think for its era it did a fantastic job, it surprised and delighted me - what it lacks is timelessness. I just can't seem to look back at it with the same devoted eyes I used to. But in my opinion, NGE definitely is timeless. >_< *is sickened to see Ouran mentioned in this thread*
