I would definitely contact my credit card company, explaining the circumstances. Not sure how it works outside of the UK, but most credit card companies in the UK have insurance for dealing with this kind of matter.
Good luck ^^ H.

just call your bank and ask them to reverse the payment you made. after that, report it to the better business bureau if you live in the U.S.

You know, I've always believed that prevention is better than a cure, and this just supports that. I don't know how you can get your money back, but in my eyes, you don't deserve it if you fall for things like that. I don't mean to offend; take this as advice to be more careful.

It's called a charge back. You'll have to call your credit card company as many people have already mentioned. Explain the circumstances. You'll also want documentation of correspondence (or attempted) with the alleged fraudster company. You will also probably want to cancel the account and reopen. Once your card has been compromised by a fraud event it is no longer safe or even smart to keep the account open. You should also report the business to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Also, in the future, always check on the validity of a business before making a purchase. The BBB and fraud aware sites are good places to start this. Research and knowledge are your only weapons in preventing credit card fraud. It's your job to keep yourself safe.
