Default theanimedvdstore.com/The Anime DVD Store

Recently I went to The Anime DVD Store in Denver, CO to purchase the anime Hi No Tori aka The Phoenix. Overall, the store has a good selection of anime movies and series and a very knowledgeable staff, they also have a fair selection of memorabilia. The prices seem fair at 10$ per disc.

Now for the negative. When I got home and turned on the series I had been dying to watch for months, what awaited me was incomprehensable, LITERALLY. The subtitles were OUTRAGEOUSLY bad, they seemed like a Google translation, if Google had down syndrome. As an educated person, I can usually atleast wrap my head around what the subs are trying to say. That was not the case with this DVD, after ten minutes of trying to read these subs I found myself inbetween a migrane and a coma. Needless to say, this was a tramendous disappointment.

I'm not saying all DVDs at TADS are this poor of quality (My friend who came with me purchased Orphen:Revenge and the subs were perfectly fine) but I'd recommend being extremely cautious of the DVDs who's covers and backs are completely in Japanese. Before selling you the DVD the employees will open the case to check how many discs are inside, at this point, if the DVD you want to purchase is entirely covered with Japanese, I'd recommend asking them to pop it in their DVD player first so you can check out the subs.

Thank you for reading, and I hope someone out there is from Colorado and can benefit from this post!!!

If that's the case and they're still just $10 and have English subtitles, it's completely obvious that you're buying bootleg, and I have no sympathy.

I'd avoid any store sellings these.

PS won the German hi no tori release at a convention and had it signed by the director. Didn't like it, though ^^;

If he's saying $10 per disc, it's completely possible to get a box set with several disks or so for like $30 to $50 for some series.

Yes, he didn't save much money, so there is no excuse for buying bootleg.

(but remember that they fit more episodes on a disc by skimping on quality)

Also, he was ripped off.

I mentioned that it's German. You'd need an R2 DVD player, PAL-capable TV, and solid language skills.

It's signed with the date of a convention you weren't on.

I think selling or even giving away items you had personally signed isn't right.
