Default Blame!

I felt that having watched the....errr...."series" that some comment was due, hopefully to stop others from repeating my mistake...

Story: 0

With an average episode length about 4 minutes (plus credits) and 7 episodes in total, you wouldn’t expect the worlds greatest plotline. Indeed, there are few animes that can manage such an achievement in such a short amount of time, notable Voices of a Distant Star is perhaps the most famous. However, Blame! is the only anime I’ve watched to date where I had to look up the storyline. This wasn’t because it was too complex, but rather there pretty much wasn’t one. Even Azumanga Diaoha has a vague sense of storyline within the mini-scenes. Blame! doesn’t even manage to attempt a storyline. It’s for this sole reason that it gets a 0 rating. It’s truly shocking how bad it is. The fact that the first episode lacks any script might have been a problem as well with regard to plot development.

Visuals: 7

Perhaps the sole redeeming feature of Blame! As mentioned, with an entire first episode of no script, your just left to enjoy the some well done animation. Certainly there are some really remarkable moments out of a show that lacks plotline and story. In fact in that respects it’s very similar to Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, great visuals just no real storyline.

Audio: 4

With a lack of script, the show has most of it’s Audio found in atmospheric effects, creating the mood of the scene somewhat perfectly. It’s certainly hard to describe how the vocals in the show are like, since there isn’t much talking on which to base it. Some parts are better than others and the attempt to create an alien sounding voice produces dreadful results. Not a show to watch if you love script.

Characters: 1

Errr….well, character development is something that happens in other anime. In this one, we have to take it at face value, what we see is what we get. And that’s nothing. However, the show does have characters so I solely felt that it deserved a score of 1. Unfortunately there isn’t much else to report on this part.

Overall: 1

Having reached the end of Blame! your left with a somewhat disappointed feel. It leaves a somewhat bitter taste in your mouth and while you wished that it actually was a great anime, unfortunately, you’ll never be able to return those minutes you lost. I was somewhat rather shocked when the entire first episode passed without comment and proceeded onto the next one to find script was lacking. The entire feel of the anime makes you feel as though your running into a brick wall, with each episode a bigger disappointment than the first. Only one other anime has made me feel that it doesn’t deserve to be recommended at all (Demonbane TV), which says something. Honestly, a sheer waste of time, don’t watch it.

It should be noted that the time I spent writing this, I could have watched the entire series.
