I'm sorry for bringing up a somewhat dead thread. But I just had to comment on Kaiji. I can't believe no one else commented. I absolutely loved this anime. Sure the art style was an acquired taste. You WILL hate the odd shapes and ugly noses for the first couple episodes. But I felt it represented the ugliness that was present in these characters: their desperation, greed, etc. The plot twists and cliffhangers were on par of Death Note and Code Geass. But defining its own style as did Code Geass. I am absolutely in love with this kind of storyline, always keeping me on edge. I don't express much emotion while watching anime, but my jaw would literally dropped everytime after an episode. I actually found this anime scarier than Death Note. Which is surprising because Death note had that beautiful gothic theme. I'm familiar with this creator. His work on Akagi was exceptional also. I had to drop Akagi though because I couldn't understand the game, which I regret. Kaiji is not the confident intelligent genius that we're used to in Code Geass and Death Note but he is the ultimate survivor, as the title says. This anime also had many interesting epiphanies that help gives the drama. There is also a loud (almost obnoxious) narrator giving interesting metaphors as well to describe the situation. Now this anime has some easy things to critique. but the story just made me ignore it. 10 pointy noses out of 10.

Don't apologise. The reviewing threads are never dead, they exist for people to post their opinions whenever they feel like it. And A-P is generally the kind of forum where no thread is ever really dead - if you find one you're interested in, post in it!
As for Kaiji, yeah, great stuff. I agree with all your comments apart from the 10 point score. Lol.

AN 8 OUT OF 10? Vivisqueen you should be ashamed! but no you make great points in your review. your right about the characters. but I feel it makes it up in its utter thrilling plot-twisting orgasm that is its storyline. but i'm an easy rater.

Heh. An 8/10 is incredibly high - that's only two points short of perfect. There is no way Kaiji is the best anime I (or anyone else) has ever watched - that belongs to anime like Monster. So there's no way I'd give it a 10/10.

I don't deny 8/10 is a good score for kaiji. I just gave this a 10/10 cause this was the first series that went beyond (i would say) the effect of drama that i've seen in death note and code geass. I really can't wait for the next season of this.

Nope. Not a peep from the creators.
