Lurking on FQC
I get the feeling that this is something that has been discussed before, so if that's the case, I'd appreciate it if someone just directs me to the relevant thread rather than us reenacting the argument here.
I'm just wondering: what's so bad about signing up just to read the FQC? I admit I originally had that intention, then I got drawn into it and started posting my own reviews. But some people just don't have the expertise to do that. It sounds silly to me to restrict the section to people who can already judge the fansubs themselves.
There's another forum I'm on that has a posting frequency requirement -- it also links the forum login to the site, so that you have to be signed up for the forums to access site content, which is what I'm interested in. So every month or so, I have to go through the long lists of mostly uninteresting forum topics and come up with some token post in a discussion thread, just to keep my account active. It just doesn't seem like the best system, whatever they're trying to achieve.
But I still don't get what's wrong with lurking. I'd guess it has something to do with the bandwith and getting nothing back for it? But aren't reviews around for people to read? I don't think forcing people to talk in order to read something like that should be necessary.
