I think displaying the post count as a...screen tip, I believe, would be best. That's the thing where you hover and it pops up, right? I just dislike the idea of making a limit to the counter because potentially all anime could hit that limit.
Also, if the number of posts is really low, it might discourage people to actually go to the thread, so putting them in the screen tip makes it not immediately seen.
