There is a serious tone to it, but at the same time, it doesn't feel as bad Nogizaka. The episode wasn't bad. It's certainly nothing new, but the characters were good. I think this is the first rom com where I actually liked all the characters. Even the "obnoxious friend" wasn't obnoxious, and his cat fights were pretty fun. It also didn't feel like they were trying to be a comedy so I'm a little weary, there wasn't a lot of jokes, just situational humor. And I'm a little afraid if there not striving to be a comedy because the plot, so far, isn't enough.
All my senses and instincts are telling me this show is average and there is nothing special about it, but I liked it, I liked the quality of it, it felt... right. As long as it stays this way I can certainly place it above all the other shows in the genre, unfortunately, they usually never do.
Also, I can't tell you how thankful I am the tsundere isn't a loli, god damn am I sick and tired of loli-tsundere.
