I leave it completely open otherwise the temp shoots up. It's in an AC'd room which is usually 65F. I have all my stuff zipped tied up in the case so it's out of the way. As for it being a faulty card idk. It's factory O/C'd and they tend to run higher in temps. But I even underclocked it and have yet to see a difference in temp other then a few degrees
