Anime-Planet Community Anime Awards - 2008
****General Rules****
-- Voting will take place from now until April 21st, 2009; you can edit your vote at any time during that period. Votes are locked and counted on April 22nd.
-- You must have watched a majority of any anime you vote for; this will be verified by awards staff as needed.
-- Eligible anime are those that
ended in 2008. Here's the master list (some anime that did not get subbed may be left out):
-- Winning titles will be announced throughout the site and social networking portals (Facebook, Twitter, Myspace). V3 will include customized banners in the winning entries. There will also likely be a second set of "panel" awards, the details of which will be ironed out later.
-- Although this is "official" in that sense, the primary goal is to provide a fun/interesting/amusing event for the A-P community to participate in. As such, please try to keep the drama to a minimum - have respect for the opinions of others, try not to fret too much if your favorite series doesn't do well, etc.
-- Obvious spammers trying to rig the results will be ignored (no site profile/forum profile till the voting thread, no anime list, etc). For this reason, if you're relatively new to the forums and want to participate, please make sure you have a relatively complete profile on the site and have a signature linking your accounts in your forum profile.

-- Moives and OVAs are excluded from the Animation category due to vast budget differences.
-- For the genre and lead/supporting character votes, we will supply a list of series/characters to be considered eligible for that vote. This is being done to prevent the endless bickering/questioning amongst users as to what qualifies as a <genre>/lead that would inevitably occur if it were left wide open. The lists are posted in their respective threads.
-- These lists are based on both our own opinions and those of a number of users we consulted while making them. Of course, they will never be anything more than a line-of-best-fit sort of thing, and nigh-everyone is going to have some gripe or another. Please have some consideration for the difficulty in getting these together and the impossibility of pleasing everyone.
-- That said, the leads list is still missing info for a couple series and has some other choices that were an educated guess at best. If anyone has any fixes to suggest, (namely for the less popular series) feel free to flood my pm inbox or comment here. ***Note that we want to restrict it to at most one lead of each gender wherever reasonably possible, so please don't send a list of every girl in a harem series -.-'
****Voting Procedure****
-- The voting will not be poll-based. Instead, each user can vote for up to three entries in a category, (five for Best Series Overall) in ranked order. Then points will be assigned based on the rank: 3 points for a first-ranked vote, 2 for a second and 1 for a third. Whatever has the most points at the end of the vote wins in that category.
-- Please make sure your votes are
in bold, preferably at the top of your post, and that any commentary or discussion you want to post afterwards avoids using bold text. This should hopefully make the counting easier.
-- If you haven't seen more than one or two series in a category and therefore are unable to vote for three, you are still free to vote if you really want to. However, a vote for just one series will count as 1 point, and a vote for two series will count as 2 points for the first and 1 for the second.
This is for a variety of reasons. First, if we don't do it that way then people would start strategically voting only for their favorite so as not to give other series a 2-1 point boost that might help them win over the favorite. Second, it can be argued that those who have only seen one or two series in a category aren't really as familiar with it as someone who's seen 4, 6, or 10 series in the group; so a token vote for their favorite 1 out of 1 one shouldn't impact the final result as much as someone picking the best 1 out of 6 or 10. In an ideal world people who aren't particularly familiar with a category would just abstain, but for those who really feel their fondness of the 1-2 anime they did see should still count for a little something, we're not going to ban them from voicing that.
-- Ties will go the anime with the lower "watched" count in the anirec.
***************************
Category-specific details will be posted in the appropriate threads. Surely most people are going to have an issue with something or other, but please bear in mind the enormity of the task. We did our best to make things as reasonable, fair and widely acceptable as we could, and even then those things sometimes conflict with one another. And if all goes well, this is something we'll hopefully be able to do on an annual basis, so precedence, repeatability and making things applicable for any given year were factors as well. We can try to respond to comments/questions/concerns as best we can, but do try to be understanding.
But with any luck, in the end this will all go pretty smoothly and should prove to be an entertaining exercise for most people. So, happy voting ^_^
