I did neither... I've been hear for over a year now and still only have 1k posts, and really only recently hit that mark.
I do spam a bit, but for the most part I don't post unless there's something I truly wish to say. I rarely troll, if at all... not purposely anyway.
There are those of us that don't spam/whore post/troll our way to the top, I can think of several people I chat with that are like this.
In any case... I can't really think of post count as all that important anyway, true you get "titles" but it's not something I've ever cared about. So not really joining the club, just plugging my 2 cents in ;p
