I'm going to agree with you on the director part Roxas. (

The director change is what I believe to be the change from the foreshadowing that was in the first few minutes of the first episode.
Note: Not trying to pick a fight, just posting my views.
As per Vinion's comments on "too much action too little of everything else": The show has a lot of exaggerated scenes. I might as well put that first as to not confuse everyone. But to the main point; it had too little storyline? If you can point out a storyline fault I'd love to have a discussion about it, but as for right now, I can't find one. Character development? Pretty much the only ones with a static characters are Kamina and Kittan, but they were perfect as they are. Each character was also unique to themselves. There may be similarities between a few but that's to be expected. And as for drama, when was the last time you dented a bedframe in anguish at the end of an episode. (Episode 8: Farewell, Comrades. You should know what I'm talking about)
So to not make it seem like I'm glorifying the show and I worship it every night, it did have it's faults. The #1 fault was the crybaby character who is way too emotional for anyone to like him (damn you shinji!), but, due to constant prayers, he became kamina-like and praises to gainax who did a good job with Simon's character. #2: Show pacing. For the most part the show went at a casual speed for the first season. But when the second season hit, plot devices enter so fast you'd think the director from excel saga jumped into the boat for a little while.
Well, other than those two, I can't really think of anything else in the show that I'm dissatisfied with.
Oh yeah, before I forget. If I'm wrong about something, please post about it. I hate staying ignorant about something so if it's no trouble, please prove me wrong. (So that I stop acting like an idiot about the subject at hand)
Condensed version: TTGL was epic-badass-awesome. That is all.
