Mermaid's Scar: 1 episode OVA by Rumiko Takahashi

Story/Summary:
Mermaid's Scar is a sequel to Mermaid Forest, another OVA done by Rumiko. Although the stories are completely seperate, they both contain the same main characters: Mana and Yuto, two travelling companions who have tasted the flesh of a mermaid, and are immortal.

The legend has it that if you consume this flesh, you will live forever. However, most people cannot handle it, and become demons or lost souls.

This story finds Mana and Yuto at a small town, where they meet Masato, a young boy whose mother is said to have come back from the dead. Mana and Yuto soon find out everything is not as it seems, and that Masato's household yields many dangerous secrets.. which threaten their very lives.

Animation:
As with Mermaid Forest, its 80s, its not great. But, the demons are still excellently done, and I felt the lighting in this one was a great creepy-factor boost. Evil characters hiding in the shadows was always a plus visually. Blood and violence abound yet again.

Music:
I unfortunately have nothing interesting to say here. Fairly standard 80s music.

Overall: 8.5/10
I gave this the same score as Mermaid Forest, because I thought they were both great. I think Mermaid's Scar was a bit more to the point than Mermaid Forest (though Forest was 15 minutes longer, and had more time to beat around the bush). Scar definitely had a great twist, and was almost MORE creepy than Mermaid Forest, if that's possible. The violence made me cringe at times because of its placement, but was very effective. All in all, these are two great OVAs (Forest and Scar).. I highly recommend checking both of them out. You probably wont be able to find Scar except dubbed.. but you get used to the voices after awhile.
