Most "traditional" anime fans probably would not like this show but I simply love it. So far it's the only "Gang" anime I have ever seen. Even though the anime is set in Tokyo you can tell how the show "borrows" ideas from American gangs. Not exactly from the big gangs that everyone knows about, more like those small neighborhood gangs that you see in your neighborhood or high school. Also the show is definitely inspired by black culture, once again even though its set in Tokyo and most people in the show isn't older than 19 it's extremely rare to see someone dressed in school uniforms nor will you see long haircuts with bangs in front of people's eyes, most people in the show wear baggy clothes and short haircuts that you mostly see on African Americans.
Now by reading this paragraph I know that most people have probably already left this thread knowing that they won't like this type of anime but let me warn you that this show is
Extremely graphic almost on the levels of Gantz, sexuality is also definitely prevalent with nude scenes and sex scenes being common also the show even goes so far as a man being raped in the first episode of course this raping wasn't as graphic as the other sex scenes but when it happens you know he got raped. I didn't like the first few episodes but once I gave it a chance the story was surprisingly deep. Once again I realize most people won't like it but this anime is really unique so unique in fact that the anime doesn't even have any recommendations in the database as far as I know in, Japanese anime there is nothing like it.
