Yes, it's obvious he didn't help these people out with the exepectation they'd help him get to Asuna, so he's not one for actually having much of a plan. But no, the last episode is not pointless. It's pretty obvious that Kirito cannot go this alone and he will need to work to bring a proper raid party into that encounter, and the people he'd befriended last week are the obvious choices.

Well yes, it probably will work out in the end that the group helps him out. I would be very surprised if they did not. However, my point is that Kirito went into this meeting by leaving his personal quest for Asuna behind. Now, if after the mess was over had he pulled a Light-like "Just as planned" moment, ok. But he made it clear that he did not plan it that way. What bothers me is that he was going to try boss rushing alone anyway. He could have done that and ignored the whole game politics deal. This is not a game of survival anymore. He has one very clear goal, Asuna. So it makes no sense at all to be distracted by anything when the clock is ticking. He even says this during the episode he goes after her, so he just totally contradicted himself. So again, my point remains the same. There was no purpose in running backwards to an area and play politics. He was helping Leafa, but at that time, she was just a chick he had met a few days before. And even if he had known she was Sugu, that STILL would not have mattered. It's a game to those people, Asuna is not.
