time for another one of my long-ass defenses

sayaka spent most of her childhood without her parents at home. her father worked all day and she didn't even have a mother figure. the only thing to keep her going was the smiling idols on television. the said she thought of those idols as her big sisters and that seeing them smile like that gave her strength, so she decided that she was going to become an idol like that and make people smile. she wanted to become an idol to save people who were feeling the same loneliness she was.

of course, she initially didn't know anything about what it was like to be an idol beyond the smiling, airbrushed girls she saw on television, so getting involved with the real, horrible thing that is the idol industry was surely a big shock to her. in her free time events she told naegi she was willing to do anything for her dream, even "bad things". if you think about the natural of the idol industry, it's likely she had to do sexual favors to producers and such, and at a very young age too, in order to move up as an idol. it goes without saying that she didn't want to do that, but she probably figured that after going so far to reach her dream that there was no turning back at this point.

her only influence was those idols she saw on tv and she became the artificial image of those idols. of course she won't know anything beyond the influences she has access to, so she became television. sayaka was, essentially, a shell of a girl and no one would even know the pain she endured just to make other girls feel less alone. she abadoned any sense of individual identity she may have previously had to become a perfect idol persona, because her dream was that important to her. she had never known anything beyond her dream.

if she was willing to do "bad things" before, it only makes sense that she would be willing to do them again. if she's trapped and told the only way to escape is to kill, she'll do it, because she's already established that she'll do anything for her dream and won't give up on it for a second. she has never known anything but this dream and life as an idol, so she'll do anything to protect the only thing giving her an identity of any kind. poor sayaka never had a chance to break away from her idol persona and share how she really felt with everyone, or to open up about how much she was hurting.
