Rieko is the mother of Bunji and Fumi and head of the household. She spends most of her life busily looking after her children, Bunji and Fumi, and her oft-drunken husband. She always worries that she isn’t raising her children as well as she could, and is even haunted by a large half-naked man claiming to be the spirit of early education. When her kids aren’t keeping her busy, Rieko works as a manga artist and frequently causes stress to her assistant, Ai, and her editor Mizunuma by running late on her deadlines. Though her family drives her nuts, she loves them dearly, but not quite enough to stop her from secretly eating crab late at night.
