Forgot to mention: He's not as bad as he seems - he was actually proud of Kazuma after their confrontation. He's not a good parent, but he's not malicious either; merely demanding.

One of my main issues with Kaze no Stigma, even though it's one of my favorite anime, is that abandoning your son when he's still a minor is blatantly illegal these days in every country I've ever heard of, including Japan.

As such, Genma has always struck me as a bit of a walking plot hole. Now, perhaps he simply sent Kazuma to live with his mother elsewhere (we never see her in the anime and the entire thing is left pretty vague) or maybe Kazuma's older than he looks in the flashbacks (he doesn't even look like he'd be 16, nevermind 18), but that entire plot point always seemed taken straight from another time period when such things could realistically happen, as opposed to modernity when it just seems very... odd.

He is an example of having a nightmare of a father.  I think Oliver Twist didn't have it as bad as Kazuma with a creep like this for a dad.
