Synopsis:

In a world where magic is a reality, the young Louise is at the bottom of her class. Dubbed "Zero" by her classmates at Tristein Academy (due to her zero success rate for magic), Louise (along with all first year students) was charged with summoning a familiar; and instead of a cute magical creature, the familiar arrived in the form of... Saito Hiraga, a normal Japanese boy who was abruptly teleported from his own world?! Can both Louise and Saito come to terms with their new and complicated "relationship" and (more importantly) help Saito find a way home?

Shakugan no Shana

Shakugan no Shana main image

Sakai Yuuiji thought he was a normal high school student, until one fateful day when time stopped. Watching in horror, he witnesses a monster devouring the "frozen" people around him; but luckily for Yuuiji, he is saved by a sword-wielding red-headed girl that calls herself a "Flame Haze". The girl informs him that he has been dead for some time now and that his current self is merely a replacement for the human that he used be while alive. He is, she says, merely a torch whose life will come to an end when the blue flame in his chest ceases to burn. After this rude awakening, Yuuiji realizes that he is able to see the flames of life in other "torches"; and after discovering that a friend of his is also a torch -- and her life is burning out faster than his – he gains the courage to live out the rest of his life with meaning. Will Yuuji be able to find his place in the world before he ceases to exist?

The characters in ZnT and Shana have identical personalities and voices. In Shana, the orthodox style of weaponry/culture is replaced with oriental-style magic and arms.

cema

Both Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima have a similiar female protagonist. Though they both have feelings for the male protagonists, their attitudes towards the male protagonists are rather cold.

Also, the "she" and "he" live together in both of these series, which gives you a hope for fluff that might happen between the characters.

ermeyers

Controlling women. That's it. In both ZnT and Shana there are controlling female protagonists that more or less make the male protagonist their slave. There's decent fan service in both of them. Plus, in both, the female protagonist has small breasts which they are very sensitive about. That adds some very good comedy to both series. If you liked one of these, then you should definitely check out the other.

abunai

The female lead characters in both Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima are of the type generally known as つんでれ (tsundere, from tsuntsun plus deredere, "aloof"+"lovestruck"); that is, girls who are at first distant and cold, but later (or privately) soften up and become loving. This female stereotype is very popular with some anime fans -- and if it's your thing, then these two anime have excellent examples of the type.

Another similar trait is the status of the male lead characters. Both are suddenly whirled into a world of supernatural events and horrifying threats. Both find themselves completely subservient to the female leads, with little or no social status left to them. And both grow under the pressures imposed by their situations.

Of course, there is also the common voice acting cast to mention -- both anime feature the same central cast of seiyuu, in roughly the same parts: Kugimiya Rie and Satoshi Hino as the lead characters, with Kawasumi Ayako in a strong supporting rôle -- as well as the capable animation direction by Fujii Masahiro.

In short, if you like either of these anime, you are sure to like the other.

APWZ

Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima share similar characters, the same voice actors, and a similar plot. The story lines are different, but if you like one, you will like the other. It's not even close to a gut feeling, it is the truth!

Strifelife

The main female characters in ZnT and Shana have very identical personalities; they are afraid to show their true feelings to the protagonists. When they aren't showing their true feelings, they are very cold and distant. Plus, both of them have small breasts and feel very sensitive about them. There are also love triangles in both anime.

The only difference is the worlds.

But, I guess you get my point; the main characters are very similar. If you liked one, you'd like the other.

rockenroll4life

When comparing two separate anime that are similar you can expect a few similarities, story line, animation style, or even plot. But when looking at the similarities between Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima a huge array oh similarities unfold. Both anime consist of love triangles, sword fighting, same voice actors, and talking inanimate objects (Alastor a pendant and Derflinger a sword). Though the similarities are uncanny there still are there differences. In the case of Zero, Saito is charged with protecting Louise, male protecting female. In the case of Shana, Shana is charged with protecting Sakai, female protecting male.

Through the similarities and the differences you can see that overall these animes are incredibly alike. Mostly this is do to having a similar theme which is just rehashed and given a fresh story, giving the viewer a whole new story.

Overall these anime share more in common than a lot of other anime. It is in my honest opinion that if you enjoyed either one, I believe you would enjoy the other. So check them out when you have the time and enjoy! ^_^

xwinterwolfgalx34

Both shows have a similar feel, a seemingly cold much more powerful (at least at first) female (Shana in SnS and Louise in Znt) take on a much weaker male (Yuji in SnS and Saito in ZnT) as their partner. They even seen to be falling in love when in both series an annoying female character (Kazumi in SnS and Siesta in Znt) decides to go after the male lead.

Kael

Both of these anime combine magical elements with school life activities. The characters have very similar personalities and the humor follows the same vein. If you liked one you'd probably like the other.

spark011789

They are very similar in a lot of ways. Shana and Louise are both tsundere characters. There are also similarities between Yoshida and Siesta. The storylines both involves the male protagonists being thrown into some kind of supernatural realms.

Soulx45

It has nearly the same concept, with the boy and girl (soon to be lovers) fight against a common enemy. but Shakugan is a very good anime one of the best that iv seen.

TropicalMist

I first watched Shana before Zero, and in a great need for closure, I decided to try Zero hoping for the same feel in anime.

For one... I thought they were really different, much more different than I was led on to believe. However, there were very obvious similarities too. Shana and Louise were both strong, dominant females. Both have problems with their feelings for Yuji/Saito and there's also the other female characters that go crazy for the guy. As for plot, both have their supernatural aspects. Both deal with the idea of dying and how "killing is bad". In general, if you liked THAT part of the anime, then yes! I bet you'll enjoy one as much as you enjoyed the other.

And of course... there were the differences. Shana was more about plot, a lot of action and VERY little character development (IMO)... while Zero was more comedy, romance and OBVIOUS character development. I guess it's more of your taste in anime. I personally liked Zero more. It had it's sad moments... but the plot carried through. Shana was a little slow for me, and it had a lot of fillers (while Zero was MEANT to have fillers). However, both leave potential for third seasons (I think Zero does have one coming out), so watch for that!

shoahunter

Both shows focus on stubborn girl who struggle admitting her feelings to the clueless boy who helps her out, (a common plot) and let us not forget the superior girl with large breast that also love him. Ahh, the ever so common love triangle. Anyway; although they have common plots these shows differences are few, and are almost siblings plot wise. So if you like one you'll with out a doubt want to check out the other.

Shiryou

Both series, Shakugan no Shana ???????? and Zero no Tsukaima ????????, are very similar in many ways. Firstly, both main characters are girls whose personalities are very alike. They are short-tempered and don't get along with the male protagonists at the beginning. However, as the series progres, so are their relationships.

In addition, both series are produced by J.C. Staff, and main characters are voiced by the same seiyuu ????. Kugimiya Rie ?????? as female protagonists, Hino Satoshi ????? as male protagonists and Kawasumi Ayako ?????? as supporting character.

So, if you like one series, or any of those seiuu, you should check out the second one also.

CarLoSG

both series tell us how is the aventures of the two principal characters, and the hard job that they have to find who is the real person that they love. all this in a world involve into the magic and mystical creatures.whitout forget the funny side.

xkub4

These animes are really similar. Both are about magic, fights and romance of 2 main characters. Seiyu are same, animations too - same studio.

Adonia

Well, if you like Shana then you'll probably like Zero no Tsukaima....  tiny, unreasonable girl falls for bewildered guy who has no idea what the *$#@ is going on but feels the need to protect said girl.  Spoiled girl abuses guy... guy continues to act like knight... meanwhile they kill a lot of lmagically charged creatures.  There is very little character development (didn't Saito have a family...?)

azanimefan

one word.  Tsundere girls.  both anime focus on relitively powerless males, pulled into a powerful girl's world, the powerful girl being a tsundere character... add in some shonen action, harem commedy, and some moe and you have two anime that are very similiar in many ways.

Omurqi

Zero no Tsukaima and Shakugan no Shana are two shows with a similar premise. The guy gets thrown into a strange world, meets a tsundere girl who acts all high and mighty there, and during the anime the guy tries to get stronger in order to help the girl. Art-wise, they are also very similar in their character design and quality of the animation. Both shows have plenty of tsundere and action, Zero having more of the first and Shana more of the latter. If you liked one of these, don't miss out on the other!

Toradora!

Toradora! main image

With different cleaning habits and tempers, the two clash like night and day; that is, except for the fact that Taiga and Ryuuji have crushes on the other's good friend! With school rumors abounding, the duo must now work together to play matchmaker for each other. Who will end up with their true love?

If you like Tsundere, then ZnT is the quintessential series you must watch, although it makes any other like it seem redundant.  There are a lot of similarities between Louise and Taiga, including the same voice actress even.  To me, ToraDora is more intelligent, but both are fun series.

cassiesheepgirl

If you enjoy watching shows with a central Tsundere character treating some poor unwilling guy like a slave and calling him a dog, then both of these series are for you! Both are set in a school environment and whilst Zero no Tsukaima is more ecchi and has a large fantasy element that Toradora! doesn't have, both are comedy series. In both situations you find youself feeling sorry for Saito and Ryuuji, and gradually beginning to like Louise and Taiga - and their tempers! If you enjoyed one of these series then it is well worth giving the other a try.

Bigfootmech

Both main protagonists live together in some way or another, the girl is short, somewhat bad tempered and has no breasts :P. Might be worth a watch if you want to see a different situation, however ToraDora! hasn't had very many episodes yet so it can change direction.

jaysah925

the heroine of both anime are very similar: short, has a fiery temper, and little to no breasts (sorry that came out wrong *sweatdrops*) if you enjoyed the funny (yet sweet) moments between Louise and Saito, you'd definitely enjoy the budding (?) romance between Ryuji and Aisaka (aka the slavedriving of Ryuji) Isn't it sweet?

Tokuwa

Seeing both series, there are quite some obvious connections: Female and male lead characters share a similar type of interaction, the female being highly dominent and somewhat spoiled - the male being a pure-hearted nice guy who is treated badly, yet in the hearts of both female leads, they do have a deeper affection for their respective "dog". Both series evolve around this element, yet in different interpretations.

Hence, If you like the tension between the characters of one series, you may just love to see this constellation in a different setting and this is the chance! While Zero no Tsukaima has an all-fantasy setting with more exaggeration, action and male-lead-torture, Toradora! chooses a realistic setting with more true-to-life moments and a deeper, less predictable approach in character behaviour - so both have unique qualities.

chamomille

There are similar characters in both anime - selfish girl who doesn't get along with other students very much and a kind boy who is often abused by her and treated like her slave. Together they try hard to overcome various problems and develop a special relationship. If you liked one, you'd surely like the other.

TropicalMist

Although these two anime have very different plots and characters, I feel that essentially they're still very similar in the romance departments (as well as the main character designs).  Simply put, both these stories revolve around a slice-of-life (or adventure) type of feel... with the underlying of romance just waiting to reveal itself in the end.

I feel that both the main guy and girl in the stories are really similar... in the way that says that they're both unaware of their own feelings.  It takes awhile for development to kick in, but finally we see the final result of character development in the end =) Both leave the story pretty much settled and there's nothing left to be said so it's a pretty solid ending (except in ZnT, there's still much to be said about the war).

Jedo

Both of these titles have characters which be strongly identified as "Tsundere". In the case of ZnT, you have Louise.. and for Toradora, you have Taiga. The japanese voice actor did a splendid job in both titles.

Aztek

Why? thats rather simple: you have a tsundre female lead that at first doesnt want to acknowledge their love and a male lead that gets exploited by the female with most of the time comical results. And to top it off Louise and Taiga have the same voice actor!

Albatross

The story play's out pretty much the same in Toradora. If you liked this then you will definitly like it as well. CHECK IT OUT!

Jinatious

Toradora and Zero No Tsukaima. They share the same type of character roles, but one thing I feel everyone is mixing up is how similar the characters are.

Ryuuji is a completely different type of character than Saito. While Saito and Ryuuji do have one thing in common, a tsundere female who takes their lives by the reigns, the characters themselves are different.

Toradora takes a more realistic approach towards it, the tsundere nature is more subtle in Taiga then with Louise. ZnT has a more fantasy feel and more action and adventure. Toradora lacks action (For the most part) and replaces it with deep character progression.

All in All, if you like ZnT you may like Toradora or vice versa. They share the same elements but the characters are, by no means, all that similar. At least, not to me.

mammothb

Both are typical tsundere female lead. there is also the feeling of the male lead wanting to protect the female lead.

Simple: Both main characters are sort of like knights for their princesses and both series have good humour and action. Well, you can probably get a much better idea if you watch them yourself :)

Cilk530

It's easy to get into the mood in both of these stories. Zero no Tsukaima has a fantasy setting, and Hayate the Combat Butler has a more modern setting. The male leads also show many similarities, but the female leads are even more similar; the fact both Loiuse from ZoT and Nagi from HtCB share a voice actor seem to emphasize this fact. If you liked one of these, you're sure to enjoy the other.

Cetonis

If you liked Zero no Tsukaima, there's a pretty good chance you'll like Hayate as well. They both involve some guy becoming the fighter/servant of a young girl. Louise and Nagi are also extremely similar characters, so the two series often feel quite alike to one another. However, Hayate for the most part avoids the ecchi jokes that are rampant in Zero, instead opting to poke fun at various popular anime. So unless you enjoy such ecchi jokes, consider Hayate a big step up.

airbornemist6

Both have a strong and arrogant female protangonist intent on winning the heart of her servant. They also share an aspect of humor. Hayate no Gotoku's humor is largely based on parody, whereas Zero no Tsukaima's sense of humor is mainly situational. The main difference in the humor is the age groups the animes are aimed at. Zero is a seinen whereas Hayate is shonen.

APWZ

More lolita anime? Both has a funny thing to them. Similar really neverending plot. Theres no doubt that if you like one of them you will like them both.

Kael

The lead female characters in both series are very similar. I would put both of these anime in the harem comedy/ school life category. Funny, lighthearted, and easy to follow- there's not a ton of plot in either one.

Betelgeuse

Both series are a humorous story of a boy in service of a young girl who loves him but does not know how to handle him because she is from a rich family where she's always been the boss of servants and doesn't know how these are thinking. Punishments and orders can thereby sometimes be unreasonably big yet funny, and he endures them. Strange situations also appear due to unusual abilities of the side characters which require him to take action to protect his master. Their drawing style is also alike, so if you like one, you'd also like the other.

Kyouko

If you are a fan of Rie Kugimiya's, then you are sure to enjoy either of these anime. Both series main female is voiced by her, and she prefroms excellently in either one.

Also, both of these series are comical and enjoyable to watch. Basically, if you really liked one of them, then you're going to love the other. Very comical, yet somehow both have a storyline at the same time.

Both involve a girl who is deeply in live with the lead male, while the male is more apparently interested in some other female.

Oehr

Spoiled girls everywhere! Nagi and Louise both are egoistic skewed girls with a dog - err boy at their side who have to do anything they want. With the story advancing, the "tenant" is getting closer to their pets - romantic comedy is on the way!

Overall, both series are very similar when it comes to fighting, love, spoiled girls and whatever. If you liked one, you'll like the other too!

Although one takes place in a fantasy setting and the other is not, I think both Zero no Tsukaima and AYA offer a good amount of rich characters, romance, comedy, and drama. I strongly recommend watching both.

baley7

In both AYA and ZNT the main story revolves around an impossible love story, as the main characters' families are against such a relationship. Furthermore, both stories have a good mix of comedy and ecchi scenes. If you loved one series for these reasons you will like the other too.

Freewind

Ai Yori Aoshi and Zero No Tsukaima are harem anime that depict love in difficult situations. Because of these situations there is a lot of similar comedy involving the main male characters, Kaoru and Saito, as they interact with unsuspecting female companions.

Both of these great anime are about different sorts of magic. They are both very humorous and have similar character characteristics. Both of these anime are funny and i would strongly reccomend them. I enjoyed both of these anime very much and I think you will too.

TropicalMist

Plotwise... character wise... even genre wise, these anime don't appear very similar.

However, during some parts Zero and especially the end of FMA, reminded me a lot each other. Both deal with the idea of "Earth" and how there's another world out there. I enjoyed how they made the connections between the current world and Earth (especially during WWII) and it's weapons.

If you like these ideas in anime, then you'll definitely enjoy both of these!! They're both fun in their own ways with a hint of humour and I believe the girl that plays Al is the same voice as Louise.

brecho

Both of these animes take place in a world full of magic where impossible became possible. If you like watching stories which are owerflowed with magic and humour you'll for sure like the one I reccomend.
