The feeling between the tragedy of one of them is similar, and how slowly developing romance between them.
If you want pain and heartache, but also fluffy feelings. This is it! I like this anime and would recommend it to my friends!
If you liked one you should like the other because both have a love triangle that gets impacted by an emotional tradgedy and they also have the same style of sadness as we see how characters deal with their friends potential death, even if orange spreads it out more than your lie in april

Both have similar likeable, socially awkward, glasses main character type who participates in a competition of sorts. Both focus heavily on drama. Both have an originally arogant side character they compete against who is humbled and grows a lot from encountering the main character.
It's because both main characters from both anime had their lives changed after meeting the other (in YOI, it's Victor, while in Shigatsu, it's Kaori). In Shigatsu, Kousei is not necessarily an underdog in his field but he tends to be dragged down by the trauma caused by his mother's death. On the other hand, Yuri is an underdog in his field and is about to retire from skating because of his age. The job that Victor and Kaori have in their own series is to serve as inspiration and romantic interest to the main character.
They both feature a storyline based around competitions, and multiple characters with their own stories competing in those competitions, all while focusing on the main pair. They are both popular animes, however many would say yuri!!! on ice is alot more lighthearted then your lie in april.
