Hyouka

Hyouka

"If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I do have to do it, make it quick," is the basic principle by which energy conservationist Houtarou Oreki lives. But after his sister convinces him to join the Classics Club, Houtarou's life is turned upside down when he meets Chitanda, a perpetually-inquisitive girl who challenges the boy's easygoing existence. Intrigued by the slightest hint of a mystery afoot, Chitanda doesn't hesitate to pester the reluctant yet highly analytical Houtarou into satisfying her curiosity at every turn, no matter how small the problem. Alongside fellow members Satoshi and Ibara, the group tackles cases ranging from a self-locking classroom door, a strangely-popular library book, and even the shadowy history of the very club to which they belong!

The main protagonist thinks of himself as "hermit who enjoys lonely life", but with progres of story they build own gangs, get girls and mix drama with comedy.

ashman711 ashman711 says...

both shows feature a main character that purposely sets out to be a loner(though for different reasons) and are somehow forced to join a school club. they both are comedic slice of life types but Hyou-ka is more mystery centered whereas Yahari is more romcom but if you like one you'll def like the other.

Fargo Fargo says...

Both of these shows feature laid-back protagonists that are coerced into joining a club and then get dragged into hijinks that makes them friends and helps other people with their problems. Both shows also employ clever dialogue and realistic handling of characterization, a much-needed refreshment amongst the industry these days.

Redbots Redbots says...

Both male protagonists think that a lonely, quiet life is the best way to live. However, there is a group of people that get in the way of that life style of theirs and turn it completely upside down.

Both are a must watch!!

Naga Naga says...

Both shows are centered on a reserved protagonist who tends to enjoy his loner life and not partake into any social activities in his surroundings. In both cases, there are other people that soon start to make them come out of their shells and socialize more. With some really witty narration, both leads steal the show. Yahari and Hyouka may be different in their approach to the daily life, but if you enjoyed one, there’s a good chance that you might find something to enjoy in the other one.

PinballWizardMF PinballWizardMF says...

Oreki (Hyouka) and Hachiman (Yahari) are two of the same vein. While Hypuka tends towards more drama and mystery, the main reason both shows are entertaining would be the MC and his interaction with a strong female character in Hyouka it's with Eru and in Yahari it is Yukino.

Azukano Azukano says...

Both consist of a main who is basically one who doesn't like to be involved in any people's events. However, they get dragged into a club. Both main male characters are smart and are put in with girls. Hyouka is more mystery based and Seishun is more comedy based. If you liked one, you should like the other.

kenji123 kenji123 says...

Both story focused on a loner who don't want to socialize with people (unsocialize) also the main characters is forced to join a school club too. It is hardly recommended for people who likes School Life genres...

EriqPeriq EriqPeriq says...

Hachimen and Houtarou are very similiar. They both have somekind of talent, the first has the LONAAAAA POWAAAA and the second is very smart and intuitive.

Atalea Atalea says...

Both involve a male protagonist who thinks socializing is bothersome. When introduced to a girl they very slowly begin to show affection (even though it's still bothersome). Both anime also involve certain problems and/or mysteries that are solved by the male lead. Even though Hyouka also focuses a bit on romance, it's main focus are the mysteries they try to solve, while Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru focuses more on the clashes the male protagonist has with others because of his behaviour. I can really recommend both of them!

ThunderFoXdk ThunderFoXdk says...

Both animes have kind of the same feel to them.

The main character are both Loners (for different reasons)

They both are slice of life, comedy.

TaigaTsundere TaigaTsundere says...

The main characters are both lazy and loners. Hyouka and Oregairu are both slice of life anime, but Oregairu is more of a comedy and Hyouka has mystery in it.

surely the appearance of the male and female lead are similar to certain extent

Zegira Zegira says...

its very recomended buat kalian yang suka anime romance school tapi ada sedikit detektif nya, kedua anime ini saling terhubung karena sama sama menyelsakan permasalahan meski dalam versi yang berbeda

samuraicricket samuraicricket says...

Both anime feature depressed loner protagonists learning not to be such Byronic butts. If you liked one, you'll probably like the other. Hyouka is mystery-based, while My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu is a bit more slice-of-life.

Both do a good job examining how far people go to maintain the facade of normalcy they themselves wish wasn't between them. If you've felt the distance between yourself and those around you too sharply, or let your ideals get in the way of living a happy life, you're the intended audience for these shows.

itzBoncar itzBoncar says...

It's so similar yet so different. If you like slice of life, then these two are great. They have so different things to offer. Hyouka might be one step ahead story wise, but it didn't matter to me. I was looking for an anime like hyoka and i found snafu. I loved both of them. They are amazing.

Funkol Funkol says...

they are both loners who got forced into their club, until they actually want to be with these people. they are both giving those funny sentence about society are for weaklings, and are both masterminds who are a few steps before the story in mindgames, but are hopeless to feeling.

klutz01 klutz01 says...

Main characters are slightly similar and main setting is also similar. One is about an overly jaded mc (snafu) and the other (hyouka) wants nothing to do with rosy-colored high-school life because it's too energy consuming.

Classroom of the Elite

Classroom of the Elite

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka has just enrolled at Tokyo Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, where it's said that 100% of students go on to college or find employment. But he ends up in Class 1-D, which is full of all the school's problem children. What's more, every month, the school awards students points with a cash value of 100,000 yen, and the classes employ a laissez-faire policy in which talking, sleeping, and even sabotage are permitted during class. But among all the students who lead such self-indulgent lives, there is one who disagrees with it all and chooses to remain solitary, avoiding contact with others: the beautiful Horikita Suzune. She has figured out that, even though the school gives students huge amounts of money, it also offers many means of "assistance for students with no money." One month later, Ayanokouji, Horikita, and the students of Class D learn the truth of the system in place within their school...

Ka0nonymous Ka0nonymous says...

Both are school life anime consisting of a sarcastic male lead with a female alternative who is equally as cynical as well as a cheerful character who tries to get involved with the two.

Azukano Azukano says...

The two main characters are near identical in terms of personality and way of thinking in a school setting. Very hypothetical and observant of sociology.

Thevolx Thevolx says...

the main characther is asocial individual trying to integrate with society, however both MC are extremely inteligent in contrast with those around him.

vinod vinod says...

Both have the same type of interaction between the leads. The trio in the series are mostly similar.

Crizy Crizy says...

The story in both animes are pretty the same and the main theme is in both School Life, but my recommendation will more be based on the three main characters of Classroom of the Elite and OreGairu who may have different goals but are clearly the same :

Ayanokōji  Kiyotaka <> Hikigaya Hachiman :  Don't have any friends, both of these characters observe other people having fun with there friends while they stay alone while analyzing people's personnality. They are both pretty emotionless and are the first ones to have a good relation with the first female protagonist (Horikita and Yukinoshita).

-> They are lonely, analytical, high school students and get along with Horikita Yukinoshita (which is unusual)

Horikita Suzune <> Yukinoshita Yukino :  Same as the main protagonist, they both don't have any friends, difference is that they like to be lonely and think it's useless to have friends. They both have one older sibling (brother <> sister) and they follow their path, they want to be as great as them, they represent their ideal. They are also physically similar ; black hair, hair ribbons and natural/emotionless face.

-> They are lonely, not interessed in making friends, idolize their sibling, are physically similar (especially their hair) and obviously are high school students

Kushida Kikyō <> Yuigahama Yui :  They are both pretty sociable, have a bunch of friends (especially Kushida) and they try to be friends with the other two main characters. Them and the other female main character are the only one who often talk to the male protagonist and could be considered as their friends.

-> They are sociable, friendly and get along with their whole class including the two other emotionless-lonely main characters.

arieana arieana says...

the main character is act like antagonist, and trying to solve problem arise using manipulation.

Epimondas Epimondas says...

Both lead characters have nearly the same personality. They disdain public attention and socializing. They keep to themselves and any ideas about who or what they are but both are deceptively more capable then they appear to be. They work behind the scenes to help others without claiming credit or praise.

Rascal Rascal says...

It has a similarly pessimistic protagonist, and both take place within a few students and teachers in a school, the story coming from the events in the school, usually negative things that the characters have to overcome. Both great if you like school anime that has more layers to it than just romance.

I don't know the specific reasons but these two animes gave off the same vibe from the very first episode as their characters are similar in some ways such as personalities and appearances well as their settings in a high school.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU has a slightly, and only slightly more personal feel in narration and is a bit less... extreme?

soleilsun soleilsun says...

- both have main characters that are emotionless yet understand the inner workings of the minds of people

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

Kodaka is a delinquent. At least, that’s what his fellow classmates seem to think. Thanks to his naturally-blonde hair and an unfortunate series of misunderstandings, the boy can’t seem to shake his false reputation and hasn’t made a single friend. That is, until one day he overhears the normally-aloof Yozora enthusiastically chatting with an imaginary friend, and discovers that she’s just as lonely as he is! In an attempt to finally meet people the duo decides to form the “Neighbors Club”, and are soon joined by a number of other fellow misfits such as Sena, the busty, popular daughter of the school president who can’t seem to connect with others. Together, the gang learns about the joys of friendship through many misadventures such as playing RPGs, visiting the swimming pool or even hunting down delicious takoyaki!

Etue Etue says...

While the male progtagonists greatly differ there is some overlap in the girls they hang out with. The story in Haganai is more romantically harem orientated while Yahari leans more toward comedy. Haganai's male lead is a social outcast because of his hair colour while Yahari's distanced himself after getting a bad start and developted a scewed point of view on the world.

Brad Brad says...

Both shows are essentially harem comedies, Haganai focuses more on the romantic side of things, and Yahari definitely focuses more on comedy. Both shows center male lead who's a social outcast, Haganai's because of his hair colour, while Yahari's is more an outcast by choice after a bad start to his new school life. The main difference between the two series is the quality in writing, with Haganai relying more on pretty girls and simple humour to draw you in, while Yahari excels in creating a balanced group of well written characters and more complex comedy. If you liked one, chances are you will find the other entertaining.

Madoka Madoka says...

Both Yahari and Boku wa Tomodachi (Haganai) follow to socially backwards (or social reject might work better) male leads, Haganai's lead is assumed to be a dellinquent due to his natural blonde coloured hair meaning people avoid him whilst Yahari's lead has a bad view on people and holds no interest in interacting with them. Yahari's lead is built with a well written and strong character making it some good fun to watch and offers lots of laughs but also maybe even some understanding for viewers who might who had social troubles in school, whilst Haganai is built a little more on romantic interaction between the male lead and who fellow club (of all females). Esentially both are romantic comedy though Yahari puts more effort into comedy whilst Haganai is a little more for choosing which girl you want to win. Yahari is structured and written very well meaning you will need to pay a bit of attention to enjoy it to the fullest whilst offering a level of underatanding whilst Haganai is a little more focused on the cute girls and simple comedy which combine for both shows real well.

ashman711 ashman711 says...

the main male protagonists are both social outcasts, one because of his hair, the other because he voluntarily cuts himself off from others due to a warped world view. the main female protagonists in both shows seem borderline Yandere types too. both shows seem to put an emphasis on friendships and the social awkwardness of those without friends.

zetazach zetazach says...

Both animes are about social outcast all in a club. Also, both animes have a male protagonist and two female protagonists. In Haganai, both protagonist decided to make a club together and figure out the concept of friends. While in Yahari, the male protagonist was forced into a club that is about helping others.

rafoka rafoka says...

Both have male leads with social problems.

In Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. you have a club that helps school students for a variety of problems, mainly focused on social arrangements and conflicts between the students themselves. The main characteristic in Yahari Ore no Seishu...; is the psychological aspect of each character that is well exploited.

On the other hand, in Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai there's a club where the objective is to "make friends" and so they do a variety of activities aiming it.  As you can imagine the comedy is mostly based on the characters' embarassement.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

Both are school animes with a male main character in a club of females and the main character is not popular but more or less avoided. However, Boku wa Tomoachi is more of your typical school club harem comedy.

Oregairu+supernatural=Bunny-girl SenpaiAtmosphere is pretty simmilar, characters are alike and not olny Physicaly as Mai is Yukino, Tomoe is in a way like Yui. I think if you like one anime you will most likely love other one. and both anime are good.

Bunny Girl Senpai is basically "Yukino and Hachiman from Oregairu SNAFU go on Haruhi-esque adventures"

keknight keknight says...

Sakuta Azusagawa will remind you of Hachinan Hikigaya, they both have this dark-ish and dismissal for keeping appearences.

and

Mai Sakurajima will remind you of Yukino Yukinoshita, they both have this cold personality but will show some really cute expressions or gestures when cornered.

Sakuta is always the guy that ends up having to help or fix things just like Hachiman does. Of course they each deal with their unique problems and events in their own way.

If you like the overall aura and feel of the story and characters these series are a good way to relive that experience with a whole new show and characters.

AnimePlug AnimePlug says...

Very similar, SNAFU is a really good watch as it has the same kind of concept, they are both very good watches and I would reccoment both!

8MangaMan 8MangaMan says...

Both these anime have two huge simmilarities that stick out to me.  One is their main character.  Sakuta and Hachiman both come off as huge cynical pessimists.  Neither think highly of their fellow studenty body and rather not "join the flow" that is an average social quo.

While they each grow and learn, it leads to the second bigest similarity to me, the animes message on relationships and relying on others.   While Sakuta starts the series off with a very proud 2 friends while Hachiman is all alone, they learn to open up, accept help, and start to enjoy having others to socialize with along with all the drama said relationships can bring.

If you enjoyed these traits in one of these anime, I'm sure you could enjoy the other.

Codydog Codydog says...

The characters are quite similar and the main character helps people out like in SNAFU

In both shows MC is a laid back loner that’s not particularly interested in his surrounding and is not a big fan of socializing. Either way, both show feature some club life that soon starts to turn their views upside down. Similar with the cast structure, and with some solid comedy that MCs provide, I’d say that enjoying one may easily lead you to liking the other one.

If you like cynical characters than you're in luck. Both Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu feature a cynical male lead and the first also features a cynical female lead. Brad Brad says...

Both shows feature a main protagonist who's a bit of a social outcast, and one that many viewers can easily relate to in one way or another due to the situations each find themselves in, and how each deals with said situations.

The differences are that Watamote focuses almost exclusively on the comedy, and while Yahari certainly has plenty of humour, it places most of it's emphasis on the drama side of things. Overall it's also a more uplifting show than Watamote is, not that that's saying much.

Shivichan Shivichan says...

Both the main characters are loners (but tomoko is a more serious one) and have the same worldview regarding friends and social life ( at first.) But the only difference is that Hikigaya manages to have friends later, while Tomoko does not.

It's like a gender swap thing. Anyway love it hate it I don't care but for me I like it both. The ost of watamote is a + too.

Famine08 Famine08 says...

Both anime feature a protagonist that has a problem with social interaction. The characters are quite different while Hachiman is analytical to a fault, Tomoko allows her imagination to dream up the worst possible case scenario and usually winds up there. Both protagonists both have very little desire to change, Hachiman admits this openly while Tomoko strives to be more social in theory but in reality is simply happiest remaining a shut in otaku. If you like one it is likely you will enjoy the other but Watamote is more realistic, nobody will come to save poor Tomoko which leads to very cringing comedy while Hachiman enjoys a much more refined sense of comedy surrounded by characters who are drawn towards him

Even more than the romance, slice of life, school setting, these two shows have a lot of parallels. Hachiman and Ryuuji are both kind of feared for their uninviting looks, although Hachiman takes this to the extreme, but both are genuinely nice and caring individuals.Taiga and Yukino are both well-to-do, intelligent, popular and athletic, but with equally ininviting personalities and no more than two close friends to rely on. Although I wouldn't consider Yukino tsundere, they both are poor at expressing their feelings, but capable of solving everyone else's problems but their own.The vibe in the romance, comedy and school-life action are similar with less martial arts violence in SNAFU. The pacing and tone and what seems to be multiple love interests will appeal to anyone who enjoyed Toradora! and vice  versa.

The main male characters of both animes have an uneasy/ unsettling vibe to them causing them, in different ways, to be misunderstood socially. A comedy centered around eccentric characters. While both main characters seem to see themselves as the down-to-earth straight guy of the group the Yahari male-lead is ''interesting'' to say the least. While the male-lead in Ore-Imouto is simply deathpan.

Brad Brad says...

Both OreImo and Yahari are comedies featuring a number of female characters centering around a single male. While OreImo's male lead could be considered a little bland, Yahari's certainly is not, he's a pretty unique character all things considered, and is one of the main things that sets the two shows apart. The others being Yahari's altogether more impressive secondary character pool, and it's better comedy.

The biggest similarity in these shows is in the characters. In both cases, our MC is surrounded with all types of eccentric females, and both shows are spinning around their unusual relationships. Her name is Chocolat, and she’s come with a message: God will strike a deal with Kanade in the form of missions that might just cure his suffering. Sounds trouble-free enough compared to what he’s already gone through - except they’re on a whole other level of extreme craziness than the choices he already makes daily! Can Kanade successfully clear these outrageous challenges, or will he be forever rejected by his classmates and remain an outcast?!

Honestly, I love both of these anime at the moment. I'm sitting here watching Kaguya-Sama and I just can't stop comparing it to MTRC-SNAFU because they're both so good. Kaguya-Sama and MTRC-SNAFU both take a Tsundere v.s Tsundere plot and turn it into something unique and enjoyable. MRTC-SNAFU takes a more realistic, and worldly view of romance and adds its own twist, while Kaguya-Sama is more fictional with its romantic "boxing" matches. I love both of these anime and would recomend this both ways. (^-^)

Both anime focus heavily on character interaction, Kagua-Sama is more light-hearted and more cute-sy whereas Oregairu is also cutesy at times but more serious overall.

I seriously love both and if you like either one of these (and haven't watched the other), you'll find yourself loving them both!
