XXXHOLiC and Spirited Away share the same spiritual theme and give a similar feeling to the viewer. Animation wise, they are both well arranged and attractive shows. If you liked one show, then you surely must watch the other.
True, anime is Japanese pop culture, but what about traditional Japanese culture? While Japanese culture is gaining more and more popularity in the West, animes tend do focus more on modern themes (which appeal to larger audiences), leaving aside the traditional background (except when it can be used as backdrop for over-the-top samurai swordfights). In this increasingly globalized landscape, xxxHolic and Spirited Away make a daring bet: they take their references exclusively from Japanese folklore and mythology. Demons, spirits, witches and strange creatures, all of them of obscure origin (at least for the Western viewer), it's all here, with a bit of a comedic element on top, Some might find them too "exotic" (and for those people I can't but feel sorry), yet I thoroughly recommend the both of them to all willing to explore a fascinating and sadly often overlooked aspect of Japan.
Sumire Takahana was a once normal high school student, until one day, she picked up a mysterious brooch and began to see soul-eating demons known as Virus. Now under attack, Sumire was saved by the owner of the brooch, Lucia, and Lucia’s Vaccine-loaded gun. However, instead of shooting the Virus, Lucia accidentally shot Sumire herself, turning her into a living antivirus. Together, Sumire and Lucia will try to uncover the secrets of the Virus before they devour all of humankind.
Venus Versus Virus and XXXHOLiC are very similar. XXXHOLiC has evil spirits that try to eat Kimihiro and stuff. In Venus Versus Virus, it's basically the same except there are viruses instead of evil spirits. If you liked one of those anime, you will like the other.
A main character is desperately trying to stay alive in a world where spirits and monsters attack people who can see them. One day, the character stumbles upon a shop of supernatural assistance. The female in charge there agrees to keep the character safe on the condition that the main character, to pay for such a service, starts to work there.
This plot binds these two shows together. If you like one and want more, the other is certainly a good choice.
When a group of children discover a strange cave at the beach, their lives are forever changed. Inside they find a hide out filled with computers and a man named Kokopelli who gives them a curious offer: to participate in a special game in which they save Earth from fifteen giant monsters. To defeat the invaders, he will give them a powerful mecha of black armor. The children eagerly sign the contract, name their new weapon Zearth, and must now take turns to pilot it; but the 'game' is in fact all too real and the consequences of battle become the stuff of nightmares. With no option to cancel the contract, is there any way to stop the game before it is too late for all of them?
Both animes have something to do with other demensions and the supernatural. Both are hallarious in a scence and have wonderfull charectors. Both are creepy and disturbing.. I highly recomend these animes!
Strange things have been happening at a local high school... mysterious disappearances, strange powers and brutal murders all emerge amongst kids who, up till now, have been perfectly normal. Even the Shinigami (Angel of Death) herself has been sighted. What's happening? The answers lie in the mysterious creature known as Boogiepop...
Both shows deal with the supernatural, while xxxholic is lighter in its delivery, they still manage to get the same point across. I highly recommend these series to anyone who enjoys anime with a touch of the supernatural.
Rumors have it that a monster has appeared over the city, and Yuki would love to catch a glimpse! Yuki is delighted to meet such a creature and tags along with Tetsu to find out more, but soon the two find themselves in the middle of a dangerous conflict with another monster that threatens them and bystanders alike!
Both animes include monsters and creatures from differnt dimentions. Very hallarious charectors and beautiful aniamtion styles! Main charectors befreind the monsters and learn to love them. both animes are very entertaining and funny!
