Both anime star chic and stylish men in an apocalyptic plot that is largely beyond their control. Both are also decidedly bleak, and emphasize character designs over just about every other aspect of animation. Also, both suffer from horrendously dry middle portions that somehow manage to redeem themselves in the conclusion. The match isn't perfect (Wolf's Rain doesn't contain any yaoi overtones, for example), but those looking for artistic, gothic and gloomy series should enjoy both, especially if they don't mind a somewhat flawed story.

X is darker and deals more with the mystical, but both are apocalyptic stories, and both have the theme of humans wasting and destroying our own planet.

X The Movie could be considered a quick overview of X TV. X TV takes X the Movie past the superficial level and offers a closer view of the main characters, adding humanity to characters in a personal way during impossibly apocalyptic times. The focus of X TV is more balanced between the crisis at hand and the characters involved. Both are dark, exploring regions of the human soul most people will never have to experience, sometimes asking questions humans don't want asked. Animation for the Movie is older and not as crisp as the Series, yet animation styles are similar and the storyline is pretty much the same. (I preferred the X TV over the movie, but I believe it was because I saw the X TV first; imo watching either the series or the movie first could be considered a spoiler for either. :P )

A demon or a saviour? You can't know for sure... Violinist of Hamelin deals with the same dilemma. The main char called Hamel is to become a demon or a saviour only fate knows the answere. And what is really best for the earth? Just like X tv there is alot of magic spells and many dramatic moments. I would say Violinist of Hameling is a older version of X tv, so be sure to check it out.

X TV and Aquarian Age deal with a predetermined destiny and a character with a good and evil side who can awaken in one of two ways. Not to mention, they both have a strong plot. Even though they have many things in common, they still bring it in a different way. They are two strong-storied anime with great music!
