Both X The Movie and Akira take place in an apocalyptic setting with an "out of time" feeling, where the pace of the film is quick and character development takes a back seat to the action. Both focus on the heart of a teenaged boy who struggles against forces he must fight whether he wants to or not and the outcome could be detrimental to those he holds dear as well as the rest of the world. Both are dark and somewhat somber but short enough not to cause unrest.

Both have a some blood and guts involved which can look quite ugly, both involve the characters using magical powers. A woman in akira can forsee the future like two of the women in X: the movie. Neither story has a very happy ending. Some of the art is similar. If you liked one because you liked the action then you should like the other.

Both are sad stories, where friends are parted because of death. In both stories the world is a metropolis and it starts to deterioate as the films progress. In both the power of friendship is strong and characters put their lives at risk to help one another. In both metropolis and X: the movie the pairs are torn apart because of ideals they are drawn into fighting for. If you liked the story line of one, then you would surely like the other.

Predetermined destiny, a character with a good and evil side and can awaken either way. Not to mention a strong plot. Even though they have all that in common, they still bring it a different way. Two strong story animes with great music !!

Bith animes are decidely dark in theme. The heroes in both are not lovable yet seem preferable to the alternative. Fate plays a large role in both

Both X TV and Witch Hunter Robin are dark and gloomy with a deep story base. Very good shows
