Both films are post-apocalytic set in a large metropolis. If you like conspiracy plots, cyberpunk or simply a sucker for excellent computer aided graphics then these films are for you.

Akira

Akira

Following the disaster wrought upon the world by a mysterious being called ‘Akira’, Neo Tokyo is now in social and economic turmoil. In such a decaying city, feisty Kaneda and his shy friend Tetsuo survive by running around in a biker gang, chasing local rivals and generally evading the police. Everything changes, however, when Tetsuo crashes into a strange-looking boy during a bike chase and the military ends up taking him away. When he eventually returns to his friends, he’s no longer the same weak little boy they always knew – in fact, a military experiment has turned him into something beyond human imagination. While the military is intent on reclaiming its specimen at any cost, Tetsuo is sick of being bullied around and is about to show everyone, including his friend Kaneda, exactly who is boss.

Both set in post apocalyptic worlds in survivor cities using advanced animation with a blend of 2d and 3d animation. They involve the viewer in intricate conspirisies and thrilling action scenes whilst emercing them in the depth of character with a romantic twist.

Another splendidly animated if stupefying action flick. In fact both suffer from severely unfocused direction and storytelling but only Spriggan actually delivers big budget splashes of action.

Appleseed: Ex Machina

Appleseed: Ex Machina

Watch the original film first - or not - but if you're big on cyberpunk style and not so keen on substance this movie should satisfy you amptly even if Wonderful Days did not.
