It's both animes about very honest and strong minded couples searching their ways to eachother against all odds. Especially against the odds of having different social standing. Both animes have the setting of taking place at an ancient time with wide ranges of social standings up to royality. The very charming difference is, that Victorian Romance Emma is very realistic and serious enough, that you can't tell how things turn out to the very last minute. But while a similar tension can be found in Akagami no Shirayukihime, this anime is slightly lighter and has fantasy flare to it.

Either way both are highly recomended romance animes showing all sides on the topic of relationships between people. May they be those of love, family or friendship, or even the relationship to oneself.

they both present similar themes plus hv the same vibe (a chill presentation style & mature romance)

Inu230 Inu230 says...

The main female character in both these anime’s love what they do, delight in caring for others, and strive to do more each day. They encounter their respective main male characters and a friendship/subtle courtship begins. Both main male characters are from prestigious breeding and are coerced by their families into marriage meetings with wellbreed ladies, encounters that are not well received by either M.M.C.

Societal expectations are present in both anime: every character is aware of the issues of pursuing any relationship past acquaintance with anyone outside their class.

Both animes have a mature romance that progresses throughout the episodes but lovey-dovey feelings are not the main focus. The titles of both anime are apt in their representation of the female protagonist: there is more to the F.M.C’s than their love-lives. Employment means more than money, more than something to do with idle hands, and more than a job. The F.M.C.’s are hardworking, dedicated, innovative, and more than content with their day to day activities. Of course once they meet that certain someone their thoughts do start to wander in areas they had not considered before. While both F.M.C’s have had offers/orders from men it is only once the one enters their life and professes his affection that these women begin to think about romantic love.

Insulting the lowly born characters is a staple of more than one high and mighty character in these anime and defending a friend by physically shielding them does not guarantee the insultee will not be harmed.

Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden

As a child, Violet was used by the military as a weapon because of her combat prowess. There, she trains to become an Auto Memories Doll: a person who writes letters for others, deciphering their true feelings and expressing it on paper. As Violet travels the world, she helps her clients find love and comfort through the letters she writes; but more importantly, she slowly begins to understand emotions, so that she can finally cope with what she’s done, and what she’s lost.

Both of these romance series go all-out on their late Victorian/ Edwardian era aesthetics, particularly in the realm of clothing. If you don't understand the Costume Porn trope, these shows will explain it to you.

Both are romance animes with female MC. Both have a past time flair and feature a master/servant kind of relationship and growing beyond it.

Both are love stories. Emma is slower, and with more detail to the background and characterization - whereas AYA is much more humorous. Not to say that you won't laugh in Emma.

Two gentle anime series, both easy to watch and with beautiful music. Emma's has a serious love story, Kokoro Library is more of a slice of life series. But if you like one, I bet you'll like the other.

Diamond Daydreams is a collection of stories about different women that are looking for love but there are always obstacles and it doesn't always end happily ever after. I think you would enjoy this anime if you liked Emma because it gives a more realistic spin to the love story.
