At the end of the 19th century, in a time when social classes dominate society, a woman named Emma serves as a maid for a retired governess. In a time of such prejudice, love between the classes is frowned upon; but for William and Emma, their hardships are just beginning. Can the two break free of the bonds society has forced on them, or will they succumb to the pressure and banish each other from their hearts?
Although today Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari live far apart due to a family move shortly after elementary school, they were once two shy young students brought together by their shared differences from their peers. It is because of this that the two built a bond of closeness between them that still survives through their continued correspondence, even over such a distance. Secretly they both fear the loss of this bond over time, and for this reason they arrange a meeting between just the two of them. The journeys both of them take in their minds and in their lives create an atmosphere of intense emotional upheaval, but also a sense of peace. It is a twist of fate and a series of decisions that put the two in place to carry what they choose of their pasts into the future they will create for themselves.
Both series are tragic love stories in which two lovers are separated by the harsh reality that their relationship cannot flourish because of circumstance. Despite their circumstances, however, their love painfully remains, no matter how much they try to stifle it or forget.

Both anime are a good choice if you are looking for more of that quiet passion where insecurities and external problems combine to hamper a sweet love affair. Neither anime is veyr rushed but both are still highly compelling.

The main reason for reccomending VRE to HMC are the backgrounds. If you liked the city architecture (and how it felt) in any of those two anime, you'll love it in the other as well.
Diamond dust: when the moisture in the air freezes on a chilly day, the air seems to sparkle and shimmer. It is said that to see the diamond dust in its glory means that lovers will stay together forever, friendships will flourish, and dreams will be realized. Kita-he ~Diamond Dust Drops~ tells the stories of several groups of friends and lovers as they struggle to stay together, accomplish their dreams, and anything in between, all revolving around the tale of the diamond dust.
Diamond Daydreams is a collection of stories about different women that are looking for love but there are always obstacles and it doesn't always end happily ever after. I think you would enjoy this anime if you liked Emma because it gives a more realistic spin to the love story.
