Maburaho

Maburaho

Kazuki Shikimori is a 17-year old junior studying at Aoi Academy, an elite school for the magically gifted. However, unlike enrollment to the school would suggest, his magical prowess is below-average. In fact, he can only use magic eight times in his life, or he will die. But not all is lost: Kazuki's family tree includes the latent genetic material for magical greatness. After that information leaks out, Kazuki suddenly becomes the most popular male student in the school, and girls from powerful magician families begin chasing him to get his genes.

The storylines may be very different, but the characters in these anime are extremely similar. It's actually quite uncanny how all of the heroines seem to have a mirror image in either Vandread or Maburaho; so if you liked the characters in one, you will undoubtedly like them in the other.

Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier

After being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school student Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular idol Sheryl. Alto quickly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his friends and Macross Frontier.

Both Macross and Vandread are based on spaceFlight and meca.Macross has a more serious side than vandread and is more based on a great OST but the two anime are alike.

Vadread consists more of a space journey, where as in Gundam Seed Destiny the battle ground consists of earth and the surrounding space. Yes both these shows have mecha's although the quantity in Gundam Seed Destiny is far greater then that of Vandread. In Gundam Seed Destiny people make war with there own kind, but in Vandread they are forced to start working together.

Vandread and NGE probe into the human soul. If you want a series that can make you think, both are able to suffice. These two go hand in hand as the one the evil side of man, and the other the good side.
