Synopsis:

When Daikichi's grandfather dies he leaves behind a young daughter named Rin. However, as most of the family is embarrassed at the idea of a 79-year-old man having a six-year-old child, they can't seem to figure out what to do with her. Disgusted by this behavior, Daikichi decides to take care of her himself, but he's a bachelor, has no idea how to raise a child, and isn't even all that comfortable with kids! Now, Daikichi must do the normal things a parent does such as enroll her in school, buy her clothing and teach her about the life and world around her. But more importantly, he must also help her deal with her father's death and decide whether or not she should try to find her mother. Together, the two begin their unlikely relationship as father and daughter, navigating each of life's bumps along the way.

Aka-chan to Boku

Aka-chan to Boku

Two months ago, 10-year-old Takuya’s mother was tragically killed, leaving the boy, his baby brother Minoru, and his father behind. With his father working to support the family, raising Minoru becomes Takuya’s responsibility, even though the boy is just a child himself. And with having to clean, do laundry, pick up Minoru from daycare and to try constantly to stop his sibling from crying, Takuya constantly changes between loving his relative and resenting him. Still, he’ll try his best to be a caring big brother to Minoru, as his mother would have wanted it that way.

Admittedly these deal with different age groups (the new/ill-equipped 'parent' as a child versus adult, and the new ward as a baby versus a young child). But both have a similar theme - someone who is very much not a parent, suddenly being in charge of a young one, having to deal with the struggles and joys along the way.

Bartender

Bartender

Pouring a perfect cocktail is a difficult feat, but one bartender, Ryuu Sasakura, is such a master of his craft that his drinks are renowned worldwide. No matter what challenges are thrown his way, Ryuu takes the time to get to know his customers and serves them the most helpful concoction for their joys and sorrows. With a calm demeanor and caring heart, this skilled bartender will do whatever it takes to make his clientele, and colleagues, happy.

Both of them are cute set of short little episodes in characters life. There are no "full" plot, but it isn't nesessary in this case.

Both are non-dynamic, calm series. Watching isn't boring but interesting.

In both shows you will find an adorable girl suddenly under the care of a male protagonist. They each have their great share of cute scenes, comedy, and a pretty bland storyline that doesn't really go anywhere except daily life of the two. But they are both a fun watch on very similar terms.

Hagu and Shuuji's relationship in Honey and Clover is very similar to Daikichi and Rin's relationship in Usagi Drop. Besides both shows have a mature feel to them and yet are lively, energetic and funny with a youthful spirit.

Kimi ni Todoke

Kimi ni Todoke

Sawako Kuronuma is just like any other high school girl who wants to make friends and be useful. The only problem is she bears a worrying resemblance to Sadako from 'The Ring!' Because of her reputation, people are not only terrified of her, but small dogs even bark in fear at her presence; in fact, the only person in school who will talk to her is the lively class hottie, Kazehaya. As the pair spends more time together, Kazehaya slowly begins to bring Sawako out of her shell and soon their feelings for each other develop further. Though with her crippling insecurities, lack of social skills, and a series of cruel rumors and misunderstandings, it seems that Sawako's dream of a normal life won’t be quite so easy to obtain.

In case you're into the type of anime which uses beautiful canvas colouring, accompanied with light music and a heartfilled plot, these are definitely the kind of titles for you. The setting is about the same, the story is different in some ways, but you end up in both with strong feelings towards the characters, wishing that could get away for a second and join them in their world.
