In ancient times, the great Mother gave birth to human beings to populate the Earth, but she also created a race of demons to be mankind's arch enemy, to teach them how to fight fear. At Count D's pet shop, you can acquire any form of animal, from an ordinary canary, to more.. "exotic" creatures. Made to sign a contract before purchase, Count D claims no "responsibility for actions incurred" if the purchaser does not follow its instructions completely, as results can be fatal. Patrons of this shop are able to get the rarest of creatures, but often, their purchases are coupled with demons from their past that won't go away easily.
Kousaburo Kuki is a no-nonsense man's man who's good with his fists, and with the ladies. Currently residing in the seedy underbelly of Paris, his best friends are prostitutes and his life seems uneventful -- that is, until a friend is brutally murdered and he finds himself entrapped in a twisted nightmare of conspiracies and creatures of the night known as vampires. With the CIA and other organizations after the woman he is sworn to protect, Kuki must risk his life to find the truth, lest he end up dead from a vampire's bite!
In the near future, the human world exists parallel to a parallel world of demons and dark magic. The two have long abided by an uneasy peace treaty, but its time is almost up, and a new one has to be negotiated. Now, two agents--a top human agent and a beautiful assassin from the other world--must protect the only man who can seal the treaty from dark world renegades or die trying!
In the year 1999, Tokyo has become a battleground as the Seven Dragons of Earth and the Seven Dragons of Heaven fight to determine the fate of the world. The one with the power to decide which way the battle will go is a youth named Kamui Shirou. Will he join the Dragons of Earth and preserve the planet by ending human life, or become a Dragon of Heaven and protect humanity from ruin? The fate of all mankind lies on Kamui's unwilling shoulders as both sides clash to gain dominance. The Dragons on both sides are individuals gifted with superpowers and fated to participate in this final battle, but what end will Kamui choose?
The character designs and animation of these two titles are incredibly similar - the lanky males, the pervasively dark view of the world... and, as manga adaptions rammed into a short space of time, either anime winds up as a pretty confusing mess.
But when it comes down to it I frankly found X a far more watchable title then Twilight of the Dark Master. If you want something that looks similar, makes just as little sense, but is a marginally more satisfying watch (granted, without the blood and sex of this title), consider checking the X film out.
